Guys was getting a new starte installed today and when the mech loosened the header bolts in the very front one and the last one coolant started flowing out those 2 bolts is this common or has there been a mistake at ensemble ? Thanks kent

This is normal. The front and back bolts go into a water jacket. Make sure you put some high temperature Permarex sealant on the bolts when you put it back together.Good Luck

Nothing against the OP BUT doesn't ANYONE wrench on there own MOPARS anymore? Hotrodding has changed a bit it seems. MT

Sure we do... at least he owns a classic Mopar that's a step in the right direction and maybe if we help him see how easy it is he'll start wrenching on it himself. Changing out a starter is pretty simple it's just wrestling one from under a set of headers that's a pain.

Most people these days (especially younger people like myself) are intimidated by the complexity of cars and I don't blame them.

I DID say no insult intended to OP. I proud of young guns driving classic mopars. Just a observation.

For this reason I try and use studs and nuts on the 4 outer corners. I know in some cases with headers it is not possible but you usually can run 1 or 2 or 3 in not all four studs.

Hey Hewittz70, Welcome to the site! I'm originally from Waynesboro! Left a long time ago when I joined the military and since my mom died, I don't get back very often.

My brother had a 74 Dart Sport he raced stop light to stop light in Chambersburg back in the day!

Certainly get on here and ask questions anytime you need stuff done to your car. It's a great bunch of guys with tons of knowledge.

Should have been able to R&R a starter with out messing with the header

Depends on both the type of starter AND the brand of headers.

Some headers require mini-starters, but you can usually change those out without removing the header. Some headers still work with the giant stock starters, but those almost always require the header to at least be hanging (not fully installed) in order to remove the starter.

And of course even header/starter combo's that should allow the starter to be removed without messing with the header can be compromised by other mods- larger torsion bars, aftermarket oil pans, 4 speed linkage, etc.

We all know what happens when you assume...

Glad to help. Let us know if there are any other questions. We have a lot of knowledgeable members on here. Post a few pictures of your car, we like pictures.

IN LIFE, its what ya learn AFTER you thought you knew IT ALL!!????? correct me if wrong???

Yep! What fun would it be working on our old Mopars if we knew it all the first time?? Heck, I get good at stuff because I do it over and over, lol. That said, it sure helps getting ideas from all the great folks here!!!

But, but, but...it's the new cars that intimated me with complexity.
I'm fine with getting out of the car and holding my choke open if the engine floods.

Hell yeah i am too in fact i get a kick out of that sometimes... my point is "newbies" to the hobby who never worked on old cars might be afraid to get their hands dirty because they don't realize how awesomely simple these cars are compared to modern stuff.

I dunno
my duster is the first muscle car I ever worked on
before that I dabbled in 2 stroke dirtbikes
now all of a sudden there are cam shafts, pushrods, valves...all sorts of complex thingamabobbers

First time this happened to me was my first Mopar, a 69 Roadrunner 383, this was in 1970. THERE WAS NO INTERNET to ask!!!!! LMAO

X2
Happened to me in '75 when I got my first set of headers. Luckily my next door neighbor was a mechanic and calmed me down.
