I'd tell the story about how I acquired this '61 Lancer, but you'd all be crying in your beers.

I'll be reading and learning before I start asking a million questions.

Love that car!!!!!!!!! Welcome to FABO!!!

It's OK, we'd love to hear the story sometime.

Thanks, gentlemen.

Alright, get out your hankies.

Lifelong friend in SoCal recently told me he'd been diagnosed with Parkinson's.

His days as a master cabinet maker will soon be over, and due to the nature of the disease no one knows what the future holds for him.

Lost both my dad and sister last February, so it's become important that we have someone to care for us as the sun sets and we commit to care for each other as we play the last quarter of our lives.

So, I flew to SoCal to check on him and help him get his affairs in order.

Part of his "affairs" were two vintage cars, his 1963 VW bus and the '61 Lancer which he's owned for 30 years.

The Lancer hadn't been driven for 5 years and had been parked under a cover in his driveway.

As we discussed our game plan, he told me he'd intended to donate the Lancer to charity.

Then he floored me by saying, "You can just have it".

Not ashamed to say that it brought tears to my eyes.

So, hopefully, within a month or so I'll get it drivable again and have a transporter pick it up for a ride to Texas.

We call her, "Black Beauty".

Great story and nice looking car. Welcome aboard!

welcome. love that car!!! yes love that black!! my 62 lancer is still a project ( unless it goes to another home), mine got shorted by 2 doors..

thanks

Trying not to get too excited about the fresh engine in it.

225 .030 over
ported and polished head
Clifford (Sig Erson?) cam, intake, headers, and a Holley 390
electronic ignition

(takes a few deep breaths)

Welcome,. Great story,on the car. Enjoy it.My guess, that is why you ended up with it.

Welcome to FABO, too bad about your friend, but it seems like the car is in good hands.......

Thanks

I plan to get the front disc kit installed (new in boxes), then go to work on the cooling system in order to endure the tropical heat in SETX.

Hey doc, thanks for sharing the story of "black Beauty"

The one thing we all need is a good friend. Sound like you are a GREAT friend. It's funny how we change our priorities as we mature!!!!

Make sure you keep your friend updated as you work on the car and start driving it.

Thanks

Hey, doc, I live just a few miles north of you. Best of luck with the car. I'd love to see it in person.

Nice Car! welcome from Houston...if you need anything ask these people..they are the experts!

UPDATE! Shop in SoCal installed the new shift cable and the transport company will pick it up in 5-8 days.

Should be in Texas soon!
