Old Phart - New Here

Thanks, gentlemen.

Alright, get out your hankies.

Lifelong friend in SoCal recently told me he'd been diagnosed with Parkinson's.

His days as a master cabinet maker will soon be over, and due to the nature of the disease no one knows what the future holds for him.

Lost both my dad and sister last February, so it's become important that we have someone to care for us as the sun sets and we commit to care for each other as we play the last quarter of our lives.

So, I flew to SoCal to check on him and help him get his affairs in order.

Part of his "affairs" were two vintage cars, his 1963 VW bus and the '61 Lancer which he's owned for 30 years.

The Lancer hadn't been driven for 5 years and had been parked under a cover in his driveway.

As we discussed our game plan, he told me he'd intended to donate the Lancer to charity.

Then he floored me by saying, "You can just have it".

Not ashamed to say that it brought tears to my eyes.

So, hopefully, within a month or so I'll get it drivable again and have a transporter pick it up for a ride to Texas.

We call her, "Black Beauty".
