California save water

Why don't the purify the damn ocean water?? It's possible to do!!

We desalinize the ocean on our submarines for drinking water & engine room freshwater, but I wonder how efficient we are. We utilize a nuclear reactor as a high output energy source and I wonder how much electricity is required for desalinization.

I thought that I heard that the process requires allot of energy and is a large/expensive plant to create. The ocean is FULL of living organisms that fowl up equipment. All of the inlets would get barnacles, and clogs that would be cost prohibitive as I understand it.

The general concept among many is to build Nuclear Powerplants at the base of all the rivers headed out to the sea (& put desalinization plants RIGHT NEXT to them)-after events like Japan, 3 mile island, Chernobyl, it is EXTREMELY difficult to build a Reactor now with all of the federal regulation.
