Looking for some K-mount lenses for a new DSLR I got. Old Pentax, Sears, Tak (not M42 screw mount) Ricoh, etc. Especially non zooms. Auto focus or not, really looking for a Pentax SMC 50/1.7 or similar "prime" lens, usually found on old 35mm "B team" SLR cameras (not Canon, Nikon or Olympus). Im getting out of my cool-aid Oly and Nikon phase. Pentax was sort of the "AMC" of the Camera industry. They made some great stuff (70 Dogleg heads) , but the marketing wasnt that strong. I'd say Olympus was the "Chrysler", usually 3rd in sales but had a fierce loyalty. Nikon was GM and Canon was Ford....

Love my Pentax K1000! Have an old Ricoh ST-805(??) that had the old screw mount. I finally against my will bought a digital SLR about 10 years ago and.. Yep, Pentax with the K mount so I could use my old lenses.

I really miss the 35mm format & wish it would regain popularity among purist again.
I'll see if there is anything I don't need that suits your need. Wife has that stuff put away God knows where!

You may be aware, but "after a fashion" you CAN adapt (import adapter) use screw mount on a K mount body. Also don't forget the old Tamron Adaptall II stuff. Some of those are "pretty fair" lenses, although they don't have anything wide and fast that I'm aware of.

The go to info page for them:

THIS was taken manually focused with an old Sears / Mamiya on my old Canon XT, a 55mm f1.8

If you have not done much of this, keep trying. It can be difficult to get a good sharp focus. The reasons are several

On the cheaper line cameras (my old Canon Xt) the viewfinder is small, and uses a mirror, not a prism

So far as I know ALL these fancy new cameras have a partially transparent mirror for the metering system. This cuts down on the light to the viewfinder

On crop cameras, especially, the multiplication of the crop factor adds to the problem

Last, the fact that we now routinely take huge photo sizes and display them on very large displays shows up every error, LOL

The above problems are largely why I graduated to my 40D and later 7D bodies. Increased viewfinder size, better viewfinder optics, and a much much larger rear screen with magnified "live view" which has been a TREMENDOUS help for landscapes, etc

This was taken with an Olympus 28mm f2.8, probably stopped down to around f16, using my 40D

Very nice pics. I picked up a thrift store Pentax Kx DSLR along with a cheap 28-80 AF kit lens off an old PZ10 film camera that will work until I get a real prime for it. Much smaller than my current rigs and the most modern of the bunch. I was disgusted with my kids DC trip pics that were on the blog. All were flat soft I-phone pics. I understand that they are handy, but on a once in a lifetime trip, bring a real camera!
