Hi Y'all,

I just found at my local hobby shop the petty engineering 70/71 dart kit kar AMT kit that was reissued by round 2. Damn, this kit is expensive. I think the price on the box was $32 !!!!

I want to buy and build this kit. I would like to make it as accurate as possible color wise. What color testors spray paint is the closest to petty blue??

They had a "grabber blue" i assume this is a ford color. It looks close , but hard to tell from a printed sticker on a can lid.

Any help would be great
Matt

go to your local body shop supply and get a can of Petty Blue loaded up for it just get some plastic primer to spray it with first so the solvent based colour coat won`t melt the plastic .

Local hobby shops will always be more expensive. Hobby Lobby usually has that kit for about $22 or so, and with the 40% off coupon they regularly have, it's a lot less. If you don't have Hobby Lobby in your area, I'm sure there's other sources to get it cheaper. I don't mind paying local hobby shops a little more to help them out, but $32 is ridiculous for that kit. That kit is based on the 1972 version by the way.

There are much cheaper (and easier) alternatives to using actual car paint for the Petty Blue, and they are very close. I think Tamiya even has one that's exact. I won't repeat that info here, as it's a quick Google search away.

Good luck.

Just tryin to help out new local hobby shop, but sheesh. Hobby lobby had that kit in my town, but its long gone. Shoulda bought it when i had the chance. Maybe Evilbay.

Found my Petty Dart kit kar at hobby lobby, put it on top shelf behind some back to the future deloreans last week as i was broke till payday LOL. Just went back to get it, paid $16 and.change w a 40% off coupon i printed off my computer.

I opened it up on my workbench. Super nice kit, lots and lots of parts. No wonder it was so expensive back then. Even the frame is moulded completely seperate of the floorpan.

I found thru a google search that petty blue had many shades over the years, but the closest in testors spray bomb is ford grabber blue. There is a testors french blue thats close, as well as a tamiya french blue.

My hobby shop carries testors, so thats what im going to buy. I'm gonna do this one really well and take my time with it. Since i waited oh about 30+ years to get my hands on one. My kids wanted to help me with this one, i had to tell them no this kit is special, and i waited a long time to get one.

I found 2 blue spray cans for the petty blue. Not sure which ones the closest, however i was curious what y'all think.

Both are testors spray colors.

AMC big bad blue
Ford grabber blue

Anybody know the difference?

Thanks
Matt
