I just read a posting on 'what's my problem' and I noted to myself that I had never introduced myself on the Welcome Wagon. I guess I didn't know what to say at first.

I am a scientist with a 'large global pharmaceutical company' nearing retirement and giving in to my long-standing desire to relive my past. My first car upon graduating college was a new 1973 Gold Duster. I neglected that car badly and traded it in in 1980 when I joined the Navy. For a couple of decades I have been nagged with the desire to make amends and bring back a Gold Duster. I still think the styling and simple nature of these cars was a testament to that period of automotive history.

First off I am not a car guy (my son is, not me). I gave up on the idea that I could in two years train myself into a general mechanic and a paint/body pro worthy of doing much at all. Therefore, I accept that I will be spending big bucks to pursue a portion of my retirement fantasy.

Anyway, I did buy a 73 Gold Duster on eBay and for the last 9 months that car has already undergone a front-end rebuild with disk brakes, complete engine overhaul (slant 6, 225), replacement of a good 40% of the exterior metal, and a very nice paint respray. This week the car should return to the mechanical shop for reuniting with its motor, and complete interior redo.

My wife and I will be driving the car for long weekend trips around the Southeast and visits to shows, so you will see her around next year (maybe Myrtle Beach this Summer). She will be a GF3 metallic green with white canopy roof and white stripes.

Sorry for taking so long to introduce myself, even though I have already made some posts, asked some questions, bought some parts, and thanked some folks already.

Well, let me be the first to welcome you, then!
Better late than never anyway!
Sounds like a great car. I grafted a quarter off a Gold Duster onto my first '72 so I appreciate both the car and your loyalty to it.
See you on the forum!
