I am planning on removing the AC heater box that is currently in my 72 dart swinger, and replacing it with a non AC box. I am hoping for a direct swap bolt in.. somehow I just know this taint gonna be the case.

Is there any difference in the firewall openings?

Any photos would be much appreciated.

Hi

Well, as you've already guessed the firewalls are different. Two of the biggest differences are the fan/ blower opening is bigger for the A/C box and of course you don't have the holes for the refrigerant lines in the heater only firewall. I went from a non A/C firewall to mounting an A/C heater box in my 69 Barracuda. Making holes bigger and adding them is a lot easier than making then smaller or filling them in. Personally, I'd rather get the A/C working again.

I was pretty sure that would be the case, my engine build does not allow me to use ac at this point. I just wanted to get some idea of what i was up against. So I guess I will just search online for some images.

Here's a non AC firewall on a Demon....

I'm giving you info that is 35 years old, but I had a 73 Dart when I was a kid. I removed the AC from it. I'm certain I did not change boxes under the dash, so maybe look at it and think it over some more. My guess is you can use the AC box. I remember something about a funnel that I painted black with a hose attached that was attached somewhere on the right side of the dash to replace something involving AC that was there. Sounds hokey but I don't think it was something that you could see without getting under there.

case, controller, everything changed from 72 to 73. Either can operate without all the a/c components but... the heat/ac cases do have vacuum operated controllers which may not function well without sufficient vacuum. The heat only cases are mechanical cable operated.

Which is exactly what I am faced with.

Maybe I should just fixit up like my 72 340 duster, factory radio delete, heater delete. Lol
