Anyone know any cheapish options for a flow bench? I would love to see some numbers for my porting I do. I would like to find something under $1500 is there used equipment out there for that?

Also I don't mind building something but it would have to be accurate enough to use the numbers

Thanks

Do a Google search for David Vizard. He writes tech books on porting, flow, carbs, and more. He may have a tutorial or two.

X you do a lot of headwork, & need flow numbers for sales, check out David Vizard's head porting books.(H.P. books line). My ex boss built his own, using the Audiequick airflow program. Cost about 3500-4000 ,from ground up. Seems accurate, considered the changes he has made in his work.

There is only one machine shop where I live and the guy is not a nice guy and I don't think he has a bench so I would have to drive a total of 5 hours round trip everytime I wanted something tested and I am the guy that will never pay someone to work on my cars as long as I can do it.

graduated tubes, some water and a shop vac. plenty of plans out there. nice thing is even a loosely calibrated rig will show you the Delta (change) between 2 cylinders.

If this is for your own use you can find the older 10" benches fairly cheaply. The high pressure drop 28" benches are a bit more - if you can find them. But - for the DIYer the 10" bench will give you indicators on improvements much better than guessing, and you can convert them to 28" pressures for comparison although you do lose some accuracy. You can also hunt around and find kits and plans for them to build your own. It's still a couple thousand for everything with a usable software package, but that's pretty cheap given the abilities. If it's for one or two sets - pay for the testing. If it's a regular thing the shop may give you a break. You can also save by only flowing and inside and outside port, and using templates make the others match...

Go here , join this forum, it's all about flowbenches.

Also David Vizards book on porting could be cut down to about 20 pages of real useful information, a lot of that information has been posted on the net in various tech magazine articles. There is also some good porting info on this site.
Here is a DIY design to look at...

I have a Superflow bench that is set up for flowing BB Mopar heads. I'll sell the bench with all of the custom CNC machined parts for $1500. I'm near Portland OR so that shouldn't be too bad of a drive for you. I don't think I'm up for shipping the bench since it would require some custom packaging and probably disassembly. PM me on the board if you're interested.
