Hi Everyone,

I have a Champion aluminum radiator and I tried polishing it with Wenol blue, and a microfiber rag but it scratched it.

Now I am wondering how do I remove the scratches and what should I use to polish it?

Thanks!

Not sure if this is the right place for this post.

Make sure the metal is clean before trying to polish. Try a terry cloth rag instead of the microfiber. MF cloths, in my experience, will put swirls into things far faster than terry or other soft cotton.

I am wondering if it was dirty. I didn't even think about that. :banghead: I have a powerball, maybe I will give that a try.

Any ideas for the scratches?

You can use any regular auto paint style fine grit polish to remove slight scratches( is: meguires fine cut cleaner). Then follow up with the aluminum polish on terry cloth or t-shirt material. I prefer mothers mag or the mother billet polish over everything else I have tried. I also have had bad luck with microfiber towels.

Metal polish is much like motor oil, everyone has their favorite. But, for polish, I've always had good luck with and used "Blue Magic". Works on plastics, metals, I've even polished hard wood with it.

It will remove fine swirls and leaves a really bright finish. Buffing with a clean chamois towel really helps to bring out a scratch free and bright luster. This should be done after an initial polish with the application towel/rag.

If you're using it right, it will form a lot of black build-up on the applicator rag.

Blue Magic, NevrDull, or Mothers Mag and Aluminum Polish on a small powerball or 3" waffle pad will make them shine like crazy!

I looked again at it last night and the scratches aren't deep enough to be picked up by my nail.

So how should I get a rid of the scratches? More polishing, or wet sand with 800-1000 grit paper?

Wet sand w/ 1000 or 2000 sand paper is quicker and should produce a mirror finish. Airstream trailer owners are always at theirs w/ steel wool to keep shiny. At least the early trailers were bare aluminum, I understand.
