65 Barracuda Formula S 273 4 speed

-
The chart I see list 4674. Price depending on condition could be 5,000 to 25,000. Hope this helps

The only production number I have ever seen mentioned said that only about 2 percent of the 65,000 1965 Barracudas had the Formula S option, so that would be about 1300 cars total. How many of them were 4 speed cars is any ones guess.

Based on Kelly and other sources an original or restored car in very good condition is worth on average $18,000 to $20,000. Obviously a car in immaculate original or restored condition could bring more. It's always been odd to me that such a rare vehicle isn't worth more, but they just don't bring the big bucks.

I've seen original paint examples sell in the $13-14k range, and the highest I've ever seen an early A body sell for was $19,500, totally and correctly restored 66 formula S 4 speed, and he overpaid!!! Mean average for a sweet 64-66 is $10k!

I found the production figures posted by searching Google for 1965 Barracuda Formula s. It shows there were about the same 4 speed and automatic with around 10,000 produced. Maybe not be correct.

Thanks Guys! I have been watching one in a field down in SC and neighbor said he thought the guy was ready to sell. Saw it up close a couple years ago, all there but total resto. Did they come with 8 3/4's? Stupid me didn't see if they were 13 or 14 rims.

if you figure a really nice one will actually bring around $10,000, and..... if you buy a complete project have the engine trans rebuilt, and YOU do all the body, paint, interior, brakes , front end, springs, shocks, exh, exh etc. etc etc, would you NOT have at least $10,000 in it???????
lot of us enjoy the work we do on them, but lets face it, we usually buy projects, either because we don't have the $10K, don't want to go to our friendly baker and tell him we want a loan to buy this $10K car, OR we actually convince ourselves we can built it for less!!??? LOL it all adds up??/ some times buying a project car IS A DREAM, and DREAMS many times never come true!!??? food for thought??

Here is a break down of production.
Barracuda Total----------------------- 64,596
1965 Barracuda - 8 cylinder--------40,522

What he said is very true. i paid 17,500 for mine (and i proablly spent more than i should) and it was in almost mint condition. i now have about another $20k in my new drive train (parts and labor, and i know I overpaid and made some mistakes) So by my math, i know have about 40k in a 20k car (and that is all that Hagerty would insure it for). Maybe someday they will increase in value, but in the meantime..you can almost be sure of one thing. "When you take it to a car show or a cruise night, yours will probably be the one and only a-body barracuda there. They made 660,000 mustangs that year, and only 65,000 cudas. Every car show I go to has at least 10-50 restored mustangs, your car will be a standout for sure! I guess that rare does not always equal value...but if you pick it up, and do the work you will love the car!

in life and in the old mopar hobby.... there is money and then there is love... they both do not always run in the same lane!?? LOL
if a guy has more $$$ invested in a car that he could recoup is sold, hopefully he bought the car because he loves it. then the investment hopefully would be worthwhile. there is a difference in a socalled #1 car vs a #2 car. the value should be different. the problem we have with the A body deal is simply these cars are not generally what the guy looks for when spending those higher $$$. more like a B or E body. so our really mint restored A bodies, generally don't bring those higher prices. BUT, if we buy cars we love, and invest our $$ and or labor in, then at all should we totally worthwhile.? right?

Yep!!! This happens every time I take out my 66 Barracuda.

To the OP, if you like it...buy it and restore it to enjoy it, probably not going to make money buying it, restoring it and selling it.

Totally in agreement. I do think the prices are a little higher than they were 5 years ago when I bought my first one. As far as price, when I am finished with mine, I will have maybe 7,000 in it. Is that to much, not for me.
When I was a kid my neighbor had one and I thought it was a great car. I always wanted one. That's my story.
When we went to Michigan and picked mine up, my wife said it was the ugliest car she had seen. But to me, it's beautiful!

I undoubtably have well over what my car is worth also, but value doesn't equal dollars! I love early A body Barracudas, and have had the opprotunity to completely rebuild one, met all you people's and many more along the way, and enjoy a hobby that I love with it! That's worth more than the car would ever fetch!!!......

All I can add is my 65 Formula S has been a love of my life and a project since I got it many years ago. I had a battle with epilepsy and it sat for 3 plus years at my friends house just waiting for me to be able to drive it again. 3 yrs ago I won that battle after having brain surgery and I starting driving it and working on it again, in fact I just aligned the front end, replaced the rubber pieces to make the alignment hold spending another couple hundred dollars in labor for a 25.00 couple rubber bushings! My car also just got a new aluminum radiator and fan a month ago and it runs like a rabbit. I am saving up for the body and paint work it needs another probable 9k investment in a car I have spent well over that in. However it starts every time I turn the key and runs like a rabbit passing many cars that cant believe it! So its a love for your car that makes the money count, nothing more or less! In fact every time I get in it I feel the work that a nice group of kids did to help me get it where it is! I thank them and their teacher again and again when she goes varoom varoom!!

65Cudalover!

I bought my 66 Cuda in 2006 i over paid but it was the first time i actually looked at one [i was 8 when they were new]. I was a car lover then but i don't think anyone had one in my area [funny thing is my car was purchased in my town and the owner lived near my neighborhood]. My wife and i were looking for another project [she wanted a truck i wanted a 69 Camaro] we went to look at a 65 F100 and this guy had this 66 sitting next to it i looked at the truck for 2 min. and fell in love with the car it took 2 hours of bartering but we took it home and i love it. I'm usually the only one at a show and even in its current condition it draws attention. I'm an A Body lover [altho i want another roadrunner like i had in high school] and an A 100. I plan on keeping my 66 till i pass away so value is not a concern to me.
