Ok, for those of you in the know on values of certain parts, I'm looking to set asking price on an engine, an a rear end.

The engine is a 70 340, with Edelbrock air gap manifold, holley 4bbl(750 I think), but I also have the original heavy 4bbl manifold...and the exhaust manifolds. The engine ran when I pulled it from my now gone 64 Barracuda, ..the cam shows pitting. Prob needs a good going over, but it's a good starting point.

The Diff is an 8-3/4, 3.23 sure grip, mancini axles. Not sure what case, but before I put the ad up, I'll get pics and all.

Any help would be deeply appreciated

Tough call and many un-answered questions. Haul the parts off to Carlisle swap meet. You could get $1000 for the engine and $500 for the rear. (at least)

Unfortunately, I won't be able to make Carlisle this year, will be on a lake in Northern Canada drowning worms, and other assorted baits.

a smart a-- reply would be put it on CL for 5 times what you think its worth!! LOL

unless you have either an engine running in your car and can answer a lot of questions about it, OR have a fresh engine with all the receipts from a reputatable shop, most people would consider the engine a complete core or an engine to just drop in and see what happens????? you say it ran? ran without smoke, knock? etc lots of variables.??

I assume the rear end in an A body? the case will have a bearing to some people, the gears not as desirable to some, condition? complete drum to drum????

my guess is engine $500 to 1000, the rear $400-700. and kind of like real estate, makes a big difference if you are in new England or Kansas Toto?????

are you financing the fishing trip with car parts sales????? LOL

Engine ran good, no knocks, ticks or other extraneous noises. Teeny touch of smoke on first startup of the day.

The rear end is complete even throw in the two rally wheels with snow tires that are bolted to it right now. yeah, it's an A-body rear, had it in my 64 Barracuda before teardown of the vehicle to go on a rotisserie.

70 340 exh man? good carb, sounds like maybe needs valve seals, standard bore ( most 340 have been bored all the way maybe,?) I bet the engine is worth $1000 ( or more) to someone. especially if standard bore.

my quote is " anything over the price of scrape is SALESMANSHIP!??"

Nah, the Barracuda sale paid for that, and then some.

The story behind the 340 being in the 64 is thus, the guy who had the '64 from 1966 thru 1989 said it originally had a 273...he had someone build the 273 for him, an they did a crap job of it, and when it let go, it was catastrophic, wiped out the block. Soooo, off to his local salvage yard, where there was a 70 Duster sitting there, that had been rolled, and had 5000 miles on it. He bought the 340 and put it in the car. The car got sold in '89, went out west where it got a grand total of 900 miles between when it was sold in 89 and sold to me in 2009.
