It's way to big maybe 2 smaller ones a little more discrete either side of the plate set back so they are more or less hidden from site.

So I'm kinda confused here. I've seen ground effect leds pointing down that look pretty cool cause they almost make the car look like its floating. But when you stop to think about ruining your night vision with too bright lights and then checking your rear view mirrors or looking out the side, that's dangerous. Not to mention what it does to other drivers. I expect a few nasty accidents followed by lawsuits followed by new laws. You might not want to be part of that program.

while i don't think he was planning on using the florescent light and extension cord in the picture thus the
Thinking about adding a LED light bar to my Dart. Dumb or cool?
.

so im assuming that you wanna tuck a led light up in there someplace for various reasons. when i was like 20 i had a slammed v-8 s-10 extended cab full of stereo equipment and purple neon under glow lights under front/back and both sides.

it was cool for sitting around the city parking lot with friends and other after dark times but even back in the 80s it was totally illegal for going down the road. My buddy just put some crazy flashing neon light setup on his girls 67 Camaro. i will try to find the video

so while you asked for opinions and even used the word DUMB in ur poll i am going to try and be a mature adult( which i think most here are supposed to be). i had them atone point in my life so of course it thought they were cool enough to buy and install but at this point in time i do think they( just like winged cars) are dumb looking but if you like( after all it is ur car)them put them on tastefully and use them in the right/legal way

so while once again i don't care for this ( but admittedly did at one time in my life lol) and you can hear that my buddies girl loves it on her 68 Camaro. it strobes/flashes and also goes to the strobes to the beat of the music lol

sorry its sideways lol thats the way she posted it and i did not feel like trying to fix it

1970-dart. The light bar I'm looking to add are actually meant to project more light down the road, like driving/fog lights, not the kind that glow on the ground. Still planning on doing it just with a smaller bar behind the grill. To those that have said "you will blind everyone!!!!" as I've said earlier in the thread the bar will be on a switch and will be used when need/wanted on back roads ie not with on coming cars.

why not just add fog lights?

or just upgrade the lighting to a newer setup. i think there are many conversions out there that would give you what you want and keep it stock/normal looking just maybe not as cheap as a light or two running off a toggle switch.

you stated ur not going to use big and bright light like in the picture (that was just a test) but do you really think a led light or two is gonna give you the extra light you seek ?? im not sure if it will. it has been my experience with led lighting is that is it more of a ambiance soft light type thing versus actually using it to see, Esp one a old back road stuffed behind a grill or under the car.

but its ur car/time and money give it a shot and see if it suits ur needs and liking

good luck

I cant get the image to load right now but here's a link to an example of how much light these bars can put out. LEDs have come a long way from just being accent lighting :). I do currently have LED headlight installed and they do work great. Just kinda looking for a little more and I personally like the looks of the LED light bars, even behind grills. I know thats not everyone's cup of tea but everyone is different.

I have a buddy with one on his rzr and if I remember correctly it says not for highway use on the box. Meaning it isn't DOT approved. This is a good thing in my opinion because you would be seriously hurting on coming traffics vision. I know you think you will shut them off when you see a car coming but how many times a night do you forget to switch your brights off when passing a car or behind someone.

The poll made this clear and even though it is your car I just hope you think of others before putting that blinding light on the front. It's more about safety for me.

You could get a couple of shorter ones, drill some holes through the front of the bumper and mount them inside the bumper. Just a thought.

If u mount that thing u should have ur mopar confiscated.

If you were to tastefully put one on, maybe somewhere hidden, it might look good. But slapping a 50in bar across the bottom of your bumper doesn't necessarily look that great to put it nicely. Do what makes you happy with your car.

Just because it fits on your car doesn't mean you should put it on your car.

These light bars are raging like a herpes outbreak in Kansas city and it's only until someone gets blinded by one that they realize how poorly most people comprehend vehicle lighting requirements.

It's like a crowded room where people shout to be heard over all the people that are shouting, except with photons.

Ditch this plan, it's tasteless.

Why? What real purpose does that light bar serve?

Those light bars are not DOT legal. Based on the appearance of your car I don't think you're offroading with it, which means you can't legally use that light unless it's in a parking lot. Enforcement may be a different story where you're at, but if "they" want to, "they" can cite you for running that light bar. Likely just a fix it ticket, but still a pain.

So, back to my original question, what's the point? There are legal, and effective, ways to improve your lighting. That's not one of them.

Also, looks dumb. At least in it's current location. Sorry.

What about finding a way to mount it in the gap between the body and the bumper? I like your idea of hiding it behind the grill, but that would impede the cooling system. Also as stated above, its illegal. do you have to travel country backroads a lot where deer are common? I could see purpose then.

Headlamp relays, good heavy gauge wiring, and a nice set of halogens, or upgrade to HID. This will solve your night lighting problem without having to try to fit that thing in under your bumper.

That being said IMHO Sorry bro i think the led light bar is no bueno. Other solutions out there.

Some states require auxiliary lights driving lamps or fogs to be on a relay so when you turn your high beams on the relay kicks the auxiliary light off autonatically. I know when i lived in NJ and had aux driving lights on my car, they checked to make sure they kicked off automatically when high beams were turned on at inspection.

My wife thinks I took too many painkillers. I havent laughed for 15 minutes straight in a decade. You guys should do stand up comedy. My ribs hurt. No offense to the op, but good snark on the site .
