Blackwalls needed (RWL would be O.K. too), but I don't want to pay $300-$400 a piece for them.

I know what you mean. Can it really cost that much to make them, or do they know we will pay almost anything for "original" tires for our cars.

I would love a set of Firestone wide ovals, el5demon, but for the money I just buy cheap radial skinnies to burn up or radial t/a's. I assumed the small batches cost more, but I would love to know the markup anyway.

I have E70-14, Wide Ovals on my car. I don't recommend them. I also run the factory Inland shifter, which again, I don't recommend.

The wide ovals were one of the most dangerous tires ever made. Their wet traction......or lack thereof, will get you KILLED.

F70-15 $238 a pop....Coker tire

Love squealin' 'em in the dry. I never take her out in the rain. Thats a lot to me, $1k shipped for a set of bias plies. Love the way they look mounted on mag 500's.

If your gonna drop a grand on tires buy some sh*t that sticks. Like an extreme performance summer tire!

This... Drove a 351C /Toploader Mustang, with a set. One speed shift on these, opened my eyes....

Have you driven on bias ply tires? They are SIGNIFICANTLY different than a modern radial.

Indeed. They follow rain groove in the highway so badly, they will literally snatch wheel wheel outta your hand.

#-oSomehow I just knew this would turn into a "those tires suck" thread.

Thanks for trying to help pishta, but I already knew about those overpriced ones.

Of course I have driven on bias ply tires. I can't recall ever having any problems with them. I agree that for a daily driver, radials are probably a better choice. But for a car that is driven only in nice weather, and where looks matter, and you are limited to 15" wheels, bias ply tires shouldn't be a big deal.

I like em for the ability to break traction, easy on your ring and pinion too. The scene from Bullitt where the Charger sneaks a left turn and nails the throttle says it all for me. Unless I'm at the track, I dont want modern tire hookup. Let those bias plies scream for mercy!
