Any one have advice ? got a new ring and pinion, carrier is only out by 1000th pinion is set to spec and cant get all the noise out of the drive side, marking ink shows them coming together nice. go figure ! had it apart 5 times now. Is there a spec or trick I don't know ?

So I'm assuming the noise is from the gears, and not the bearings, nor the axles? And yoy're using EP oil?
During those 5 times, what did you change?
Got pics?
Cant help w/o pics

The rear is apart right now, will send some pics of the ring gear. The last few times we test drove it we believe it is moving a little metal. The first time the pinion depth was set to 2.062 as per mfg. spec. that shim thickness was .092, backlash was set at .008 according to pattern from there pinion shims were changed to .091 then .087 then .095 then .096 then .094 Each time the backlash was set between .007 and .009 and had noise every time. .094 seemed to be the least noise. Two times we had a bad pattern not driven, can't remember which times. Original housing had std carrier and we switched it to posi-traction, the first two shim changes had that carrier, we found the carrier was warped .005 Then we changed it back to the std carrier, it was much better only out by .001, we used GL 5 80-90 gear lube. On the last time we used 50% that and 50% lucas petroleum stabilizer with no change. brgs were replaced twice. Noise definitely coming from ring and pinion

Brand new gears bought from Quality Body shop Drivetrain (doctor diff) Poison,MT. 3.55 Gear Chrysler 7.25 and brg install kit

You can kinda see the wear pattern in the third pic. It looks ok really frustrated! definitely ring and gear noise. Are those gears ever bad new ? These were manufactured by Strange We called them and they said only a handful have ever come back.

i had a brand new set of u.s. gear (by strange) i had got for my old dakotas 8.25 in 3.55 that would sing like crazy! no matter what i did to move then aroud. Got them warrenty & went whith mopar oem gears problom solved! more money but set up easy & not one peep from them! latly aftermarket gears for mopar 8.25 & 9.25 have had probloms!

I was looking for gears for mt 8.25 Dakota rear end. The gears I found on E-bay listed in the ad said that the gears were manufactured in a way that they would make noise. I did not buy them, but it was nice that they said so. Cheaply made gears make howl. Quality gears don't.

Well I put the original oem gears back in, set the pattern as before, test drove and quiet as a church mouse, First try. Now I get to see if U. S. Gear will stand behind their product and refund me. Seven attempts on those, did not matter where I put the pattern.

Is the sound a whine or something different? Is it constant or does it oscillate faster with speed? Does the sound happen during acceleration and deceleration or just one, not the other?
Thanks

it was a whine (hum) on the acceleration side , got real noticeable starting at 30mph and at 50mph the radio would not even drown it out. no $ back from U. S. Gear yet. They did say it would take some time cause of the channels I bought it through.
