I rebuilt this AVS for my GTS 340. The linkage is as it was on the car but the secondaries will not open at full throttle (on the bench). When I rebuilt it I didn't take the linage apart other than to open it up. This car sat for 25 years and I can't remember if this was a problem when I put it up back then.

Try it while holding the choke open all the way.
Some carbs will not open the secondairies until the choke is all the way off.

a carter avs should open the secondaries with the choke held open on the bench, the mechanical connector to do this is on the passenger side

The linkage rod is wrong. Check out some of the AVS carbs on this site or on eBay and you will see what I mean.

Don't know if this helps. One that's been laying around for a while..........

HA 4611S

Top picture, choke wide open, all barrels open.
Bottom picture, choke closed, rear barrels restricted.

If only it was that simple. This linkage rod is not removeable on the bottom.

I have another carb, 4615SA, that I can use that looks like that and does work right. I'd like to keep the original carb on the car if possible.

Okay, I finally found a Carter AVS Service Manual and it had a picture in it that shows the linkage on my original carburetor and the problem is solved. The piece behind the fast idle cam was backwards.

If anyone needs it here's the link for the service manual. The main site has some other interesting Chrysler related information as well.

Thanks everyone for helping me get this solved. The pictures of the other linkage came in handy for the other AVS 4615SA I have.
