Needing some input
have a 66 valiant all stock rear suspension and I am wanting to put a larger wheel/tire combo on rear.
I'm looking at a 15X7" with 4.0" backspace or if possible 15X8" with 4.5" backspace.
Question is
A; has anybody used either size wheel on a stock early A body?

B; What would be the largest tire you would suggest for a daily driver.

C; anybody selling good pair of steelies in that size?

Any input is welcome and thank you.

This is the car they are going on.

Thanks for the info Mike. Summit has both the 15X7 4" bs, and 15x8 4.5 backspace. If it is fees able I would prefer the 15x8. But I would sure hate to have them not fit.

Your dart looks great and I went thru your 273 build post and looks and sounds awesome.

If your going to do 15's, might as well step up an inch or two inches and get some sticky rubber under there... Nothing to see in 15's anymore.

Great looking Valiant. Nice to see another local early-a. Did you measure both sides of you car? My Barracuda had a little less space on the left side of the car. I understand this is somewhat common. I think the 15x7 is a safe bet and will support all the tire you can fit under your Valiant.

Thanks for input guys. Looks like a couple local guys too.

Commando, I will measure and thanks for the tip. Loving the 66 barracuda, I have had no less than 4 of those and 2 in red. One was my first car ever and other was a 4 speed car. What size wheels and tires you running?
Poison dart the problem with going to a larger wheel is that I am doing a budget build and as of right now am still running the small bolt patern. That may change at some point. I am also liking the steelies and poverty cap look for now.

If you're looking for a nice step up from the stock 13" wheels and tires, I'd suggest something like a 225/60-15. Pretty common size and available in several "Grand Touring All Season" brands and treads. If you are running a fairly stock suspension, it's all the tire you'll need and will have nice highway manners. If you plan on Porsche hunting, you want a more serious performance tire, but you'll also want some serious performance suspension parts.

15 x 7 4 inch BS with 205/65. Plenty of room..

Not a 15 inch but i'm running a 14 x 7 4 1/4 back space with 245/60/14s on my 66 cuda with room outside but tight inside [finger thickness] to the spring.

Valiant1, this my first car too! I've owned it for 30 years. Sadly, it's been torn apart while the family grows. The car is mini-tubed and backs are 295/50/15's.

Lou3500 do you have any pictures? Im not opposed to 14". Now if I understand correctly how backspace works, if those wheels were 4" backspace that would put more on the body side and less on the springs.
Am I understanding correctly?

I run 15x7 steelies with 4.25 backspace and 235/65 radials on my 65 Valiant. This leaves enough clearance on the inside and out. No rubbing anywhere.
