So I popped of a valve cover (actually pried from all the TRV) yesterday to see what
rockers the person I bought the car from put on. This is the cam details that he gave me: Cam, Lifters, Valve train, Mechanical Flat Tappet, Duration 274/280, Lift .502/.511, Mopar, 383-440
With mechanical flat tappet I expected to see adjustable rockers, not so. It has hydraulic rockers and lifters.
From all that I have read today this is a bad combination.
Asking to get other opinions on this and what would be a good cam to replace it with.
I am running the stock carter 4 barrel and stock exhaust manifolds going to 2.5 inch flow master x pipe system.
The engine is 383 to 727 trans to 3.23 sure grip rear. Thanks for any advice

I would verify lifter type and also make sure the pushrods aren't the adjustable type. He may have grabbed the wrong cam card....
The Road Runner cam or something just a little bigger would be fine. With cast iron manifolds and an automatic with stockish converter you don't want a lot of duration on a 383.

X's 2. A step up from the RR cam is good. Going much larger might have your converter on edge. You can pick up a solid 30+ HP from opening up that exhaust and the cam change. That's an improvement you'll feel alittle bit.
