I sure wish I had the "youthfulness" (energy,) money and skill to do something like this. Keep us updated. Very interesting. I'm jealous A bodies don't have "that room" under there
 
Haven't had much time to work on it lately. Busy summer at work. I had my motor machined and ordered billet input and servos for my trans. I shortened my Dana 60 and installed doctor diff axles and a spool.

308 Heads are now ported and polished. 2.02/1.60 valves. Competition valve job and back cut valves.

I feel a little nervous about the whole cast crank idea, but I have never built a turbo motor, so maybe that's gonna be fine.
 
What size tubing did you use for your headers and how did you determine that size.
 
Crank and block are the weakest links. It sure looks like fun!
 
as far as i know you should consider a billet spring retainer for the rear servo. It is recommended if you use a shift kit with higher line pressure....and i think this is a good idea for your setup.

very nice work so far....should be interesting.

I would think....9.40's shouldnt be a problem....and with enough boost., you could crack a 8.9x
with that setup.
 
This is a budget build.The plan is to do a r3 motor or boost a r5p7 motor down the road. All of the parts that I have in this build have either been discounted or have been bought on forums. Headers are made from 1 3/4 tubing with 2.5 hotside. I chose 1 3/4 tubing by how other similar build spooled up and ran. I would be fine with making a mid 10 second this summer and will shoot for 9s next year.

Turbos use heat from the exhaust gases to spin the exhaust turbine which in turn spins the compressor wheel forcing air into the cylinders. The least amount of heat lost via header/manifold/crossover pipes the better. It can also be used to protect anything that's sensitive to heat that may come into contact with the header/manifold during operation.


Awesome build. I am a diesel guy so turbos are something that I'm use to. Naturally I'd love to have a turbo'd motor in my Duster! Maybe one day, for now ill live vicariously through you guys with turbos lol.
 
Not much left to do. Should be fired up in a couple weeks. Have to order catch can, Trans and oil cooler, afr and boost gauge and finish my disc brake setup. I can't wait to drive it. :D

Well, I'm getting really close to having it finished now. Just got done building a disc brake setup. Pushrods for my motor showed up last night, so now I can install and finish up the top end. All that's left is mount a couple gauges some wiring and have a local guy shorten my driveshaft.

I know one thing.........sure am jealous 'bout all the room ya got in there LOL
 
I thought the same thing when I first saw this thread. I'm sure a s475 could fit in the Duster with a small block... but I bet it'd still be tight. I have an s371 I held in place when I first got the car just to see and that takes up some room... not to mention fitting all the piping(cold & hot sides).
