I picked up a 3/8 sending unit and new fuel tank from YearOne, and I'm in the process of putting everything together but the sending unit pickup tube is bottoming out preventing the flange from sitting flush. I immediately thought cheap part with bad bends.

Has this happened to anyone else? I was thinking I could bend the tube but before I do wanted to tap the FABO collective knowledge base.

Thanks
AlV

It sucks that you have to "fix" a brand new part....

Thanks for the validation and yes I really don't like the idea of bending up a brand new part either.
ive got an old tubing bender I can use just to be safe.

Are you absolutely positive you have the correct sending unit? That seems really odd to me.

Loose tolerances, tired child workers and shipping mishaps from the Red Country create the need to make slight adjustments.

It's not hot rodding if your not tweaking or modifying right?

Don't sweat it just bend it and drive on! :burnout:

It is, as Far as I can tell, the box indicated its for 67-76 ABody and the packing lip matches. The number on the box matches the stamp on the piece.

Maybe something changed going up to 3/8ths

It shouldn't have, I upgraded to 3/8ths when I did mine, and it fit fine.

Hmm... maybe it is just mine then, although Duster440 says he had something similar.
Tough week for me, first the the brake line work around now fuel, I guess it's all a part of the experience :)
I wish it just dropped in because then the tank would be installed an I'd be running the lines lol

I'm going to try to adjust the bend in the morning.

decades ago, when I bought what was supposed to be OEM reproduced lines... ie brake, fuel, trans cooler, fuel pickups, etc.. I NEVER got a wrong bent part!!!!
now everytime I order something, from whatever company, seems like half of the stuff is bent wrong!!!!! or they send the wrong part. sorry. the line bending co stand behind their parts. classic ind, just has some b s excuse..

Okay so I couldn't find my tubing bender so I massaged it by hand and Tweaked it just a bit. It's still hitting the bottom but I'm just able to overcome the resistance to seat the flange.
It is very tight though and spinning the retainer is one hell of a chore. Even with the tank on the floor.
Do I have this correct?

Not quite, those little humps on the lock ring need to go into the humps on the tank portion, to "lock" it in.
I was afraid you would say that lol this is tight with a capital T.

The retainer tabs are starting to bend.

It helps to move around, tap one spot, move over to the next etc. If the tabs on the tank are starting to push up, that's kinda normal as those humps will push it up. It should return when you get it seated.

It's finally in, only thing left is to pray it doesn't leak thanks to all.
A quick heads up.
I bought this sink strainer lock nut wrench at Home Depot for 7 bucks and it helped.
