Hey guys:

I'd like to enlist some help from anyone located around Bellefonte/ State College PA. to have some fun with a mystery.

You see in my signature I have a '73 Valiant. I won this on an eBay whim a couple years ago. It's a low-mileage but somewhat rusty PA car. I got it from a flipper who I surmise bought it from the original elderly lady owner after it finally failed it's safety inspection.

Let me be clear that I am not attempting to track down the elderly lady.

What I am curious about is the general area this car spent 40 years in and if anyone around there recalls seeing it. I think that would be super neat.

Here's the clues I have, and there aren't many:

1. There was a complimentary rain cap and comb stuck down between the seat that says "Elect Don Ludick Tax collector Bellefonte borough".

Donald A. Ludick did indeed reside in Bellefonte but no evidence he was ever elected to that office. I figure the Valiant owner must have also been from Centre county to have been given those items.

2. A PA safety inspection sticker which expired 6/13, issued by station #7958, of which I can find no evidence of anywhere.

3. The seller I got it from lived in far eastern Centre county and said he "drove it 30 miles home".

That's it. Owners manual shed no clues, neither did the broadcast sheet other than it was ordered. The closest dealership I have found would have been Frey Chrysler-Plymouth in Lewistown.

So, this is a different thread than most things we talk about here and it may die on the vine, but if any of you guys up there recall seeing a green '73 Valiant with dog dishes running around with a old lady driving it, chime in.

Thanks.

Well up until last Friday, I use to work in State College. I never heard of that guy, nor do I know that inspection station. I can ask a couple of people that I worked with if they know.

I remember seeing this car leaving a Firestone store in state college one evening.....did it have new tires?

My friend had a valiant 4 door and it was the same color but I swear his was a 72 that was sold to a kid going to Woodward skate camp that I believe lived in Florida. Sunpro tach clamped to the column? How many green four door valiants could there have been in the SC/Bellefonte area?

There couldn't have been many. I know it was there until approximately June 2013.

I'm assuming it had one owner before the man I bought it from, but who knows. I know it had major body repair and a repaint at some point to fix salt damage, and then was involved in a LF fender bender that was repaired with a fender from a Duster. It also had the upholstery inserts replaced with velour.

I figure somebody will pop up eventually and know exactly who owned it because like you said, the majority of those cars up there got junked long ago from rot and there only could be 1 or 2 around there nowadays.

Thanks for chiming in, guys.
