I've raced my brothers Stock Eliminator 66 Barracuda at Brainerd about 5 years ago and had a blast. This past weekend my brother was there running his wifes car for fun. So I decided to drive my car up there and spend the weekend at the track. After seeing some of the other cars running I decided to run the Scamp in SE/3, 14.0 or slower cars. Knowing it was my ride back home, I was nervous.

My brother had some drag radials that he wanted me to use, but with the rear fender lip I couldnt fit them in. The car just wouldnt hook up at all, with the 7" wide street tires. I tried everything but no matter what I would almost always spin. Frustrating for sure!

I got 2 days of running the car and practicing my reaction times. Being it has been 5 years, I was slow or a bit jumpy and lighting the red. Sunday was a different story. I was nailing the reaction time. My best was a .003, my others where .094 and .072. Not bad for what I consider being a beginner again. My best run during the weekend was 14.237 @ 95.32 mph. Somehow I got it to hook up. LOL

Somehow I managed to make it to the 5th spot out of 19 cars. My last run, I was up against a 15.75 second car. I had the better reaction time, but I just couldnt beat him to the line because of the spinning, losing by .181. He ran a 15.798 and I ran a 15.113 on a 14.9 dial in.

Even my wife had a blast watching me run and she is for me doing it some more, just not so much with my driver.. Anyways, here are a couple of pics she took.

That's cool !! It's funny how my car is a little faster now, but it's the same fun and more expensive !???

It is the same fun, it's a fact. On the street, I find it more fun to race to very slow cars than two very fast cars. Like when I put my '63 Fairlane with a 170 6 cyl 3-speed up against my brothers '78 Volare station wagon with a super six auto, I jumped him out of the hole, but he slowly crept back into it and finally was able to pass me just before the end of the marked off 1/4. We had time, lots of time to see the whole inch by inch race.... and it was fun!

Sure gets the heart pumping! Sounds like you had a hell of a good time! Nice reaction times!

Great to hear that you had a very good time! Its all about having fun!

What was the A/F going down the tack and through the lights?

13.2 starting and down to 13.0. crossing the line.

Thanks everyone! It for sure isnt a fast car, but it sure is fun. I like the fact that the wife enjoyed it and got excited talking about building a duster that we have available to run. Perhaps that might be the start of my winter project.

Why isn't it a fast car? You're fulla ****. It's faster than a LOT of production muscle cars, dingbat.

^^^^true -(not the dingbat part) most new mustangs & challengers at the track are 13.7 to 14.2

A day at the track getting some Track/Light time with friends and your wife :cheers:

Fast car you have there straightlinespeed :glasses7: Looks like a groovy day of :burnout::burnout:

Needs more go juice.... The jetting is likely lean. Might be another 30hp there. If it's got any ethanol in it, it may like a number in the 12.0ish range. You are going to be busy with the PVCR's and jetting up front.

Similar build went right at 105 in 5200 foot air.

Keep jetting it up until it slows down. If you jet up and can't get it to slow down, the fuel system is not up to the task.

Good info Rob! Nope, no ethanol in the gas.

Im running a 69 up front right now, but cant recall the PVCR size. Im only running a mechanical pump so kinda stuck with that for the time being.

I'd go up at least 2 maybe 3 steps both front and rear.

You'll have to figure out the PVCR sizing to run the 69 mains after you get the WOT jetting correct.

If the gauge doesn't show richer with each step up in jetting, then you may have a supply issue.
