I have a 72 Demon with a 78 318 4 spd with J heads with larger valves, torker II intake, Eddie carb(1406 not sure if cfm), purple shaft 284/484, otherwise stock rotating assembly. I am running a holler blue fuel pump. What is a good pressure to set it at? Also what is a good spot to set the timing? Stock electronic ignition. Thanks for any info.

4.5PSI for the carb. Dizzy likes lighter springs found from an HEI re-curve kit. 34-36 total, then hook up vacuum advance; 48-52 total for cruise MPG; whenever it leans out, back it off 2 degrees. Manifold or ported vacuum, whatever runs better. Vacuum advance has no bearing on performance, so don't think that way. It's an addition to, not a subtraction from.

Next fuel pump, try a carter 4600HP, those holleys are looouuuddd.

Lastly, I highly recommend a cheap wideband gauge like an AEM UEGO or Innovate LC-2.

Thank you! I would like to have the pump run with the key on. So I do not have to drill a hole for a toggle switch. Also plan to run an inline fuse. Any recommendations on where to get the power source from and what size fuse(s) to run?
I got this pump from my uncle. He built a bigger motor and needed more fuel. This has only been ran for a season of drag racing. It is very friendly to my bank account at the moment. So in time can upgrade to a quieter one. Lol

I'd run the pump off a relay that is triggered by your key switch.

Ignition timing. Initial timing in the 20-24 range or more and the rest mechanical to hit your total number. A 284 cam in a 318 will want a LOT of initial timing.

^^^^ What he said. Give it as much timing as it likes and will still start easy when warm but just be sure and keep the total mechanical degrees at or under 38. A trip to the salvage yard with some good wire cutters & nut driver and you can have a nice relay panel from a later model car that will come in handy for all kinds of things. Just be sure and get enough of the wiring and connectors. Once you get the timing where you like make sure you have the right springs under your metering rods so they will be down at idle. Watch your accelerator pump nozzle too. Make sure you are getting a good squirt off idle but no black smoke.
