Tell me what you think of this deal...

I am curious though, knocking the patch out and selling for "a lot" more seems optimistic.

I just bought some bucket seats from another seller on fabo and when they showed up.....they smell like a cat's *** and the foam crumbling and they look horrible.

I left the seller positive feedback because I am glad I found a seller who was willing to ship such a large item....and more importantly, I understand its a 45 year old part that needs rebuilding. Unless it is an NOS part, it will have been used and who knows where its been in the last 45 years.

Most sellers will not ship. I have a pile of fenders myself but I am not selling them online because I am not going through the hassle of shipping.

The seller admitted like a man to goofing on the marker and was willing to take it back. The fact that he will admit error and is willing to ship in the first place says something.

And BTW: knocking out the patch and cleaning it up would have brought more because 70/1 fenders are in more demand and worth more than a 72. That is market supply and demand.

I will attempt to turn this into as positive a situation as I can by putting a post in the bodywork section as I repair this thing so others can see one get repaired for future reference. Similar to my autometer console build. By this time next year I plan to have a my pictures of this build in a members restorations post. Good luck in future deals.

Irregardless - return a fender to you for $310. When I have $370 in it... .

I would call that "mitigating damages

Another member already pmed me about shipping another fender to me for shipping costs alone so clearly I'm not the only one who sees this as a shady deal. .

I would be careful to claim the good nature of another mopar brother as a sign of ill intend on Tony's part
better yet, it wouldn't surprise me if this other member offered to send you that second fender for free to "get Tony out of a bind"

if I were in this situation I would chalk it up to experience and let it go
I don't believe you were hoodwinked into buying something other then what you were looking for but you failed to ask for proper proof and Tony failed to provide it

oh well

I would agree with that. Over eager diving into this car and I was a bit too trusting. Forum has given me some great information thus far. Just can't help being a little pissed off every time I look at it.

Y'know, you're really starting to piss me off. I offered to make good on that thing as soon as you brought it to my attention, and do it in a way that would not have cost you a dime... And then you have the balls to call it a shady deal?
**** you, man. I hope this thread serves as a warning to anybody considering doing business with you.
I'm out.

You know, I put out a wanted ad for a 73+ steering centerlink. Tony got back to me that he had one. Price was fair so we dealt. Part showed up a few days later...it was the WRONG ONE! Holy ****, my world ended.

But you know what? I PM'd tony. He apologized for the mistake. It was an earlier centerlink. You know what he did? Refunded my purchase price and the shipping....

THEN he told me to hang onto it. So, it's leaning in the front corner of my garage in case some jackwagon comes walking in uninvited...I have something to swing....

Thanks for the baseball bat TONY! I wouldn't hesitate to buy anything from TONY!

Go work on your interior....

after reading this thread, I must offer this. I see no one as being against you for "being the new guy." I think we all try our best to offer constructive criticism, help when we have good advice, opinions, and information.

this sheetmetal, it is all 40-50 years old, not much that has NOT been "worked" one time or another. to know what is there, you have to take it to bare metal, D A, blast, whatever. want perfect metal , buy new repop. pay those $$$. most all used fendesr, anyone will spend $$ on cleaning, priming, filler, sanding, all takes time and some $$.
sounds like to me, if once you decided it didn't meet your expectaions and not happy, should have just sent it back. if you had already put $$ and time in it, then that's life.

I have dealt with Tony as has many others on here, and I venture to say, he's reputation is spot on. he's paid his dues!!!!

these old cars can be a learning process, so I say, keep learning. no one is "against" you for being a new guy. but realize, YOU asked OUR opinions on this subject, and that is what you got.

sniffing a cats *** ewwwww rani what to heck you doing over there

:blob:

I am truly amused at the original posters audacity! Best of luck on your build! I'm going to get ahold of Tony this week with my list of needs. Your thread did just the opposite of your intent. He clearly offered to make it right repeatedly. Why should he pay for your blasting? You can clearly se in the back of the panel it is a 70-71. You should've sent it back at that moment, or set your mind on working with it and moving on. I had to buy an entire parts car to get fenders. I'd have bought that one in a heartbeat!

tnts72, I hope you learned something from this thread.

I also would buy from Tony (and agent99) cool name Kathy"D in a heartbeat,
OH, that's right I buy stuff from him all the time, AND 1/2 of the time he gives the part to me for the cost of shipping only.
Not only that, he has sold me parts that were supposed to be for his own car because I needed them and he wasn't ready to use them yet (KILLER deal too) thank you.

Coming on here trying to trash his name over your indecision, impatience or ignorance because he didn't pick up the phone fast enough after you admittedly were going to try and make it work is just BULLSHIT.
It's obvious you were just trying to cause him a bunch of trouble because you got buyers remorse, and I personally think it was an extreme case of classless for you to make a purchase from another member and then come on here asking what we thought of the deal you got after the fact.

All you accomplished with this thread is to prove what a dick you can be if you think you can throw someone under the bus to benefit you. (for $250 yet)
AND, that if someone new wants to know if they can trust him as a seller, this thread ought to produce the exact opposite effect than you were hoping for. :)

Kathy, I had a feeling a guy couldn't pack things like that for shipping :D
Nice job to you both, and thank you.

That is exactly right, I wanted your opinions. I never wanted this to be a "I think Tony is a bad guy" post. I didn't call him out, another member linked the original sale add. I'm man enough to admit I made a mistake keeping the thing in the first place. When I didn't get a response to my last 6 messages, that generated the desire to put up a post. Just one more thing to work on with this old dog, and I will pay for my decision. Never did I ask Tony to pay for the extra work I had done, nor did I deny his willingness to refund the purchase price and return shipping. As a customer, I have the ability to choose who I do future business with and it is what it is. I'm not going anywhere, still lots of work to do on this Duster and a lot for me to learn. Fender work will take place when the car heads to the shop to get the 1/4 patches and drop down sections done. I do plan on putting up some pictures of it as I work on it and I want you guys to know I'm not doing it out of spite! That sums it up for me. Put as much time into the fender as this post and she will be well on her way.

Welcome the the mopar world. Expect to pay twice as much for parts compared to brand X. That quarter actually looked better than the front fenders on my dart before my rebuild. This is 45 year old sheet metal and there are no perfect original sheet metal out there at that price anyway. In my opinion you got a fair deal from a great member. I have bought and sold hundreds of used mopar parts. Got burned a little on some and others I came out golden. To me it's not worth the wasted energy and stress of starting and maintaining a thread like this. Move on.
