Top Radiator Hose Collapses

Matter of fact "that hole" is so small that it "could have been" overlooked at the factory.

Just a thought.

Stant Manufacturing 10231 Radiator Cap STANT RADIATOR PRESSURE CAP -- 2-21/64 in. L x 1-13/64 in. H, 16lbs., vented cap.....
So tell me why when I went and looked at over 10 cars yesterday at a car show all had Stant 10230 Caps when you look up that part number it says its nother about being vented and all the caps I seen yesterday on all cars didn't have to word vent on the them and all had the part number 10230

Yes I did try both...
And also when going around to 10 different cars yesterday at the car show not a one car had a cap that says vented on them like the Stant Manufacturing 10231 Radiator Cap STANT RADIATOR PRESSURE CAP -- 2-21/64 in. L x 1-13/64 in. H, 16lbs., vented cap, but also none of the cars had a catch can, except for my buddy duster.
He has a cap that doenst say vented on it but did say Stant 10230 stamped right on the top of the cap....

I don't mind trying to remove the hose going to the top of the can and hanging it off to the side tomorrow like all other cars have and see if that does the trick. I only got the can to prevent fluid from over flowing onto the ground...

Why should we explain? Are you going to run THAT can? You have been told twelveteen times now which cap is right and your catch can needs to be vented, yet you keep going on and on and on. WTF is wrong with you?

Then try reading what we are typing. We don't need somebody whose head is as hard as a brick wall, either. We ARE trying to help you after all.

I had that same recovery bottle on my 406 vega, and on my 406 gmc, had no problems w/ either one of them.. sounds like you got trapped air in the system maybe? when you fill the system, raise the front of the car off the ground, fill slowly , even start it and let it idle while topping off. I had to do that on the vega to stop it from trapping air, I put rear cooling-circulating lines on it coming back to the thermostat housing, that really helped !

OK Lets start this off a different way....lets not even worry about my hose condition or Bottle Catch Can OK

If I was to look at 20 Cars today all would have caps with out the word Vented on them. Plus a good buddy of mine has a 70 Duster 360 just like mine and his cap says 10230 right on the top.

I am just trying to figure out what cap to use that is the correct one, or does it matter.

I would remove the hose from the catch can and use the vented cap. Unless your rad is defective at the overflow, you should have solved the collapsing hose problem. If so, then you know that the catch can needs to be vented
,

I had this exact problem. The tube to my overflow was clogged. Unhook the hose to the overflow bottle. Something is not venting. you can tell if the cap is ok by doing this. It's free.See post #5.

This^^^^^^ try eliminating the catch can and running it with the vented cap! If it still collapses the hose, it's not the can vent!!

And, 20 cars can have the incorrect cap on it, and if no one is running the exact same setup as yours, they are worthless examples! Did any of them have the Jegs bottle you are running???

Richard, IF the catch can is not vented and or the tube going into said catch can is plugged, when the system tries to suck the coolant from the catch can back into the radiator it cannot. Which in turn would make the hose collapse.

You said when you release the cap the hose returns to normal, instant sign of vacuum, vacuum is there because it has no venting.

FIX: Make sure the catch can is vented, make sure the hose is clear, make sure the fitting on the side of the fill spout is clear.

Think vacuum cleaner, turn it on and put your hand over the end of the hose, the hose will try to squeeze together, ie; collapse.

It could be something as simple as a mud dauber getting up in there.

1....Start at the beginning of this thread

2....Read carefully, slowly, and take notes.

3....There is a reason I posted what I posted

4.....I am done here.

Yes. Del Has already posted which cap is correct for your car WITH a picture from the catalog. Goodness me.

Have you read any of the responses? Stop guessing and think. The pressure in a closed system is directly proportional to the temperature. When the temperature in your cooling system drops the radiator hose is collapsing. What does that tell you? It tells you the pressure is dropping and it is a closed system.

It needs to be vented to atmosphere somewhere, whether at the radiator cap with no bottle or at the bottle.

Read the above as many times as it takes to understand it.

A few months back the overflow tube was leaking so I added a clamp to the tube which closed the system from venting.

Now hook up the hose to the bottom of that can and fill your radiator all the way. Recovery system/good to go.

I don't have a recovery system just a catch can.
The over flow tube goes to the top and only is used for if the Radiator discharges fluid.
The Cap is Vented to allow this to happen, and Yes the Catch can is now vented also.
The Radiator is only filled to about 1 1/2 from the top allowing room for expansion.
It all works great.

Dam....Reading that was like, well getting hit in the head with a hammer :violent1:

But glad you got it fixxed.

Hopefully you take your car to the track, because thats the only place a catch can is necessary.
And even then, if your coolant is at the correct level, it should be bone dry.

If you overfill your radiator, and the system is working correctly, it should only puke
antifreeze once. Then the fluid should be at the correct level, with no puking there on out.
