1970 duster 340 4spd TIME CAPSULE!

Great find! Do us a favor and learn some camera and picture uploading skills. It's a great car, but would look so much nicer in GOOD light and not sideways, upside down, inside out and backwards. lol

Those were from my broken phone. I have to crawl over it with a real camera.

Thank goodness. I figured this would be the "it's for sale" post. If you want it going for the father's day car show, do the work and get it going for the father's day car show.

Just busy with life...but I have been surfing this site again and starting to get the classic car itch. This car won't be going anywhere. But do want to get it going this year...I hope

Did you get someone to buff the paint? Again GREAT find!!

Actively in search for a pair of date code correct manifolds. have a wanted add on FABO and have a couple leads. Canadian dollar is in the tank so makes it a bit hard to find a good deal. I will keep looking for a bit, but if I don't have any luck I will have to buy cheap headers in the mean time, just to get this on the rd again.

Right now I am focused on my 1939 chevy as it is the closest out of everything to be road worthy.

Picked up a gas tank for the car today. I know I will have to remove the one that is currently in the car because the fuels has been aging since 1982. Found a tank on craigslist and figured for $80 I could easily just swap them out, rather than worrying cleaning the existing one and re lining it. Guess I will see how bad the existing one is.

Have a lead on manifolds...don't think they are 340 manifolds, but the price is right...long story.

Going to be selling stuff at a local car swap meet. Planning on putting all the money towards my cars...mainly this one.

Got some progress on parts for the car. I picked up some 273 manifolds to use on the car just to get it up an running. If the correct pair of 340 manifolds come up for sale I would be interested.

I will need exhaust studs for the 273 manifolds...would they be the same as 340? Should I just order 340 ones?
If not, does anyone have 273 manifold bolts to sell???

I will need to rebuild the carb and do the clutch on the car...in the mean time, I have to finish the trans work I am doing on my 70 440duster ( car in aviatr) befor I start working on this one.

Cruising with this to Easter car show on Sunday in Vancouver.
This is a bogus car... Had to get this ones gas tank cleaned and a couple other items....she runs good now

well. This summer is the summer for cars. I have had to make sacrifices and not work on vehicles for 2 years. Im back at it. Got my other duster up and running, time to focus on some others.

I have purchased some parts for this car now. Have a gas tank for it, and some 340 manifolds. The manifolds I got are not the correct year. so if anyone has a pair of correct 340 manifolds for this car, let me know.

I will have to clean and rebuild one of the carbs that I have laying around and get a clutch for the car. I am itching to start working on this car. but there are two other cars that have all the parts for repairs needed. so I will be focusing one them for the next little bit. I am still in high hopes that I will have this one running this year/summer

sounds like u are going to fire it up without taking it apart, can be done , but not like some monkeys do on television. change oil and filter with oil in it, spray wd40 or marvel mystery oil in cylinders, remove distrib. and prime pump with drill while rotating engine

What he said...

...if it's been sitting for an unknown amount of time, I'd also recommend pulling the covers off and making sure the valves aren't stuck and that they seat after opening. When I first cranked up my Scamp after it sat for...several years...it bent 5 pushrods trying to open the stuck valves...it also kissed a few spots on the pistons...

EDIT: OK, I reread this from the beginning--it's been sitting for 32 years? I didn't see anywhere you said it was last run or moved up and down the driveway, so I'm going to assume it hasn't been turned over for > 5 years...in which case, the suggestion above would still be a good idea. I was amazed at how much effort it took to manually unfreeze all the stuck valves from all the varnish. Thankfully, with all the bits and pieces of gasket kits and spare engine parts, I was able to get it reassembled and running in the afternoon.

ya, I'm going to change the fluids, plugs, prime the oil. didn't think about the valves, will do that as well.

Owner said they ran it every year, in driveway. Engine wasn't suck, i could move it by hand. it shouldn't be too bad. but I will take the extra effort to make sure its fine before fireing. Will be taking a large amount of pics as well.

no updates. I keep getting pulled back to my other duster. having tranny issues. Looks like it will be getting a rebuild

This duster is put back on hold.

Just compiling a pile of parts for this car. Got a clutch kit on order, have a carb rebuild kit for one of the carbs. Have a gas tank. Just need the time.

Had to re/re my trans 3 times on my other duster. Hopefully it's in for good now.

Well, I am definitely not going to have this car on the road as quick as I had hoped. I realized that I would need the proper work area to work on the car. and had the plans to build a large shop. we started construction back in Sept 2016 and finished it by june 2018. Its a large shop (3000SQ FT) and I have now started work on this car. but It will be a slow process and I will work on it when I have time. these forums can tend to get a fire under my butt, so who knows...

I have been able to track down some more parts for this car. and I have been able to track down some era correct Date stamped 340 manifolds.

I have the car up on jack stands and have cut out all the exhaust and removed the transmission. I will be removing the engine next and going over it.

this car had factory SB disc brakes. I have not looked into buying new callipers yet, but does anyone know if there is going to be an issue with buying new callipers for this car? I know BB callipers are easily purchased.

I do not have any pics of the car in its current state, but I will post some shortly

here is a picture of my finished shop. all I can say is, I am thankful I have a wife that likes vehicles as much as I do. Don't be a hater on the Camaro. I don't have it anymore, but I like all vintage and classic vehicles. not biased.

Dude-good to see youre back up on here. Glad to hear you have a place to work on it and picked up some parts that will set your mind at ease.

You can definitely buy the OE style calipers, I’ve seen them on rock auto, but they’re a little spendy for what they are. You can also buy overhaul kits for them if you’d rather do it yourself. They also sell the flex lines, but I haven’t seen anywhere that stocks the little transfer tubes that go between the halves of the caliper, so hopefully yours aren’t damaged or rotted through.

Keep the fire lit!
