Its been a hell of a long time since I've been on the site, but I'm back now looking for advice. Current situation is a 68' Dart with 76' engine 360, .060 over, hooked up to an MSD6al ignition system and blaster coil. However I'm using a standard distributor with standard wires. I've been so much spark plug wire information that it almost becomes confusing. I'm sticking with Champion plugs n12yc, but wires not sure. MSD heli, Moroso blue max, Magnecor race wires, Taylor, Mopar, the list just goes on an on. Any helpful hints will be useful to my application. Thanks

standard parts store wires (7mm) will work fine and fit your wire separators properly if you
are using stock valve covers

DO you need all that hooha? What are you doing with your car?

8mm Yellow Accel's here mostly because of the HEI.

Nah, I lied. :D
I got em cause they are pretty, and the HEI was a good excuse.

Thankyou for your personal views and choices on plug wires, but I'm not convinced on a brand yet. I am leaning towards MSD to keep this electrical system "In the Family" if you catch my drift. Hoping to upgrade the distributor to MSD as well.
I guess the dilemma I am having is this: Most companies make one product very good and not a family of products that are all very good. Maybe I'm digging to far into this, I don't know. Just food for thought.

Lemmie let you in on a little secret. "Most" big box parts stores have wires on the shelf that will work fantastic and last a LONG time on your car.......regardless of what you're doin with it.

We sell Ultima Wires at O'Reillys and even their entry level wires are very nice. I have a set to use on RobKat. Just like any other wire, as long as they don't get burned by headers or pinched in something, they will be fine.

Sometimes you gotta look past the bright colors.

Thanks for your input on the wires. But here's my thought process.
I have an MSD6al and a pro blaster coil. I thought if I continue up the ladder with MSD wires and distributer, I'm keeping every thing within the family and things will run a just a little better. What do you think?

http://www.firecore50.com/ these are great and a top notch company to deal with and pricey .

Appreciate the advice. I'll take a look at these. But as I mentioned to Snake.
My thought process leads to the fact that I already have an MSD6al and pro blaster coil, why not continue within the family with a good set of MSD wires and later a distributor to complete the family line, hoping for that "True" delivery of performance by a well known company. What do you think?

i dont know what your question is your mind seems already made up on china made msd wires and no your car wont work any better with msd wires over taylor firecore or accel .

Of course they are going to recommend their product, but there are other products available equal to their's that would be compatible, and probably less expensive.

I like the MSD wires. I too have the Blaster 2 coil and MSD 6AL box and just figured I'd stick to the same brand. You'd think since all the components came from the same maker - they'd jive together correctly. For my 410 I wanted black wires and I wanted them routed as cleanly as possible so I got MSD's universal kit and made my own. Easy to do if you have a little time.

I'm sure there's no real performance benefit over any other wire out there that is the same diameter but they work and look good when used with the MSD wire separators. IMO

i couldnt use that type of wires because i have a BIG BLOCK 440 on my 1968 Barracuda and they wouldnt have fit because of length - i needed the L shaped wires.

keep in mind

Most ignition wires are packaging and marketing, few have much substance or are worth the premium price. I'm not qualified to say which is what.

We had an engine on the dyno with a MSD 6 ignition box and MSD wires. Kept having problems with the data acquisition system being molested by EMI/RFI. MSD wires shoulda killed that, but they didn't. No matter how we routed them or what else we did, still the problem. One of the guys did some reading (no idea where) and bought some wires from Magnacor. Problem disappeared with their install. Sold me, no MSD wires any more.

First let me say "Thank you" to everyone with a response to my initial question.
Secondly, I am not a professional in the field of spark plug wires. I own a '68 Dart with a bored out 360, and I am trying to dress up the engine bay with quality products. Having said that, I have spent the last 3 or 4 days researching plug wires for my application.

I'd like to believe that there are companies out there that have quality stuff and that they can sell there "Promotional information" and make me a believer. I also understand that there is a Patriotic side to purchasing products. So here goes...

I have looked at the following "Brands" of wires, and they are not in any particular order.
MSD - Taylor - Mallory - Accel's - Moroso - Bosch - Jegs - Summit - Mopar - NGK - Pertronix
Firecore50 - Magnacor and Granatelli.

What I have found is that the majority of these wires, by there respective companies have polished up their promotional / sales pitch, and as one A body enthusiast said in his post;
"Wire's are just wires". But if you look deep enough, you will find a few companies that put out quality stuff according to "Hot Rod Magazine" or other groups who have done research and are much more qualified than I am.

Companies such as Firecore50 or Magnacor and even Granatelli. But the true fact remains
HOW MUCH DO YOU WANT TO SPEND. $100 $200 $400 and up for wires, when a standard set is probably worth $40 - $50 bucks.

So I have down graded my expectations on what I believe to be "Quality" wires, and settle for something that is affordable, slightly better than manufacture quality, and something that looks a little flashy under the hood.

I'm going with Mopar wires, because none of the other "Box store brands" seemed to be any better.

If anyone is interested, check out the article "spark plug wires 101" I found it to be a good read. Thanks for listening.

ain`t going to compete w/ anybody on here about plug wires, But, did you look at the advertised resistance in the diff. brands of wires ? I have only seen 2-3 brands advertising the low resistance wires, M S D is one of them. that`s what I used on all my hotrods. you can find them on ebay for better prices some times. cheaper if you custom tailor them to you car too. look at what the fuel dragsters are running. just my 2 cents---bob

I don't see low resistance being worth anything. Low Impedance OTOH might be........

AFAIC looking at what fuel car engines use only applies if you're running a fuel car engine. Looking at what endurance racing engines use would be more applicable, but even those may be more than is needed on a street car engine.

I see nothing wit what your thinking, nothing like keepen things in the same boot.

And when all is said and done, and the new wires installed,I like to just stand there and just stare at em. For at least 5 minutes. With the engine running. In the darkest spot I can find/create. And drop it in gear too. (No dome lights or dash lights or brake lights even). And if I see ANY little blue sparks jumping around!!! Note: little blue sparks seen easier with periphial? vision. Outta the corner of yer eye.
