Wedge

was at a friends place today, talking mopar .
and he proceeds to tell me about this wedge block he has sitting in the barn.
I though a wedge was the design of a hemi motor.
he said no they were in trucks and it is painted yellow.
got some pics of it, still no idea what it is

"Wedge" is a name applied to just about any common engine, Mopar, Ford, Chevy. That is all the "traditional" first generation overhead valve engines which were NOT hemi (or flathead) were a "wedge" design

The "thing" that got Mopar in that terminology was to differentiate 'reglar' engines from a hemi, especially in 64, when Ma made a 426 wedge (and no they were not all "max wedge" many were lower performance single 4bbl and also in trucks, motorhomes, boats) as well as the second gen hemi, which was also 426

Later in the "advertising craze" of the 70's Ma had a Duster? Demon? that had "340 wedge" emblazoned on the hood. It was a marketing gimmick. ALL small block Mopar engines are "wedges"

Below is a 426 "street wedge" also sometimes called a "stage I" I believe. They were essentially the fore-runner of the 440
