Converting to manual steering..Confused
I did this on my 68. I couldn't wait to replace the heavy cast iron leaking slimy PS box with a simple lighter aluminum 16:1 manual. Aaaah....simple and lighter is good.
I obtained a complete manual steering column but ended up using my original PS column because it was in better shape. I removed the inner PS shaft from the column and replaced it with the LONGER one from the MS column. If you do the same thing you will need a coupler. And yes the splines are different between PS and Manual boxes.
Flaming River used to sell a U-joint extension to make up the difference in lengths that takes the place of the flex coupler. Steer and Gear and Firm Feel also sold extensions.
