Air Shocks

I'm considering putting some air shocks on the rear of my 1972 Plymouth Scamp to raise it up just a little. Has anyone tried the "Monroe MA704 Max-Air Air Shock Absorber"? If so, any feedback would be appreciated. Also, if you can recommend any other air shocks that will fit a 72 A Body, I would like to hear your inputs.

The air ride suspension sounds nice; however (and maybe I'm wrong here), it also sounds like it's pretty expensive and has a much more complex setup.

A lot of people on here hate em, and I think most of that is because the upper shock mounts are not that strong on A bodies and they sometimes get ripped off by the pressure.
I run them, but only as a minor adjustment feature and not for lift.
 
Not a huge fan. I did run them for a while. I would rather get new springs.
 
They do stress out the upper shock studs. If you plan on running much lift/pressure I would try and reinforce the top mounts.
 
ive ran them for 30 plus years and not one time have I ever have an issue. don't blast 200 psi in them then load dead bodies in the trunk and you will be fine
 
I've decided if Ma Mopar was good with it they can't be all that bad. And ya gotta love those "Ozite" floor mats and the choice of tachs as well!

I have Gabriel Hijackers on my '74 for over a year now, you'l like them to begin with but after so long they do get annoying. It'd be better to get new rear springs and normal shocks. They ride rough with too much air in them thats for sure.
 
Thanks guys, all good inputs. I remember having air shocks on my A Body when I was younger and I do recall the rough ride, especially over speed bumps. Sounds like they haven't changed much over the years.
 
I've run across a couple that rattled real bad because the studs had broken loose in the trunk and had to be welded.
 
Rough ride and broken studs are all in the pressure used.
 
Put um on there. Put 200 PSI in um.
 
I've said this before. My old 70 RR came from my good friend with Gabriel on it, and a set was on it when I sold it with more than 140K on the clock. Never broke a thing, and it towed a car trailer and 70 Cuda from San Diego to N Idaho, and some "Jeep trips" later on. "Empty" there was usually minimal pressure in them, 40-60 psi or so.

That was a heavy car. With a 440, headers, aluminum intake, Dana and 4 speed, it weight somewhere near 3860. I've still got a weight slip "somewhere" for no good reason 'tall
