Dougs

WOW!!! Mass guys with mopars that live near me and have the same Doug's header issue as me at the same time lol!

Im in the middle of reassembling my 71 Scamp with a 340, X head, Dougs headers, and my number one tube is touching the box in the middle of the turn going around the box.

Sounds like you might have also got a set that were jigged wrong. Try checking the engine location first according to TTI's engine locating instructions here (pg 1)

If the engine is in the correct location whatever you do don't dent or even scratch them or Pertronix will say you modified them so you voided the warranty. IMO their a lousy company cause they know they had a problem and won't admit it and look for every way out of honoring their warranty.

I did center the engine per TTI's instructions. I have nearly the same setup as mopardude with a 340, x heads, Schumacher poly locks and brackets, and these doug's headers. Ive tried moving it all around, shims, no shims, blah blah blah. Header tube #1 hits the box just as it curls around the box and the passenger side header is against the T-bar just as the bunch of tubes curl around the T-bar. I do have one difference then Mopardude's setup and that's a Keisler 4l60E overdrive trans. I'm going to check to see if the tailshaft is sitting too high causing the problem on the passenger side. But I'm at a loss with the #1 tube.

Can't return these, purchased from another member on here.

Sure sounds like you got a defective set like I had. When I called Pertronix I didn't tell them and they didn't ask me where I got mine (I bought them from a member here also). They told me to send pics and when they saw I dented the tubes that's when they balked. I have a feeling they might have done something if I hadn't dented them cause they told me if I sent them in and they put them on their jig and they weren't right they'd make it good. Wouldn't hurt to give them a call

Wow that's a good idea. I will try and call them next week. I want to try once more this weekend and see what happens. Thanks

Does anyone know how much clearance I should have between the number 1 tube and the P/S box? As well as, how far forward or rearward the engine should sit?

Hope it works out! I have my doug's headers sitting in my garage waiting to be installed! Glad I came across this thread before installation!

TTI shortys. I know they give up power to long tubes, but they are far and away better fitting than the Dougs I replaced...
