That sounds like an urban legend. Back in the day, and even now to a certain extent, Chrysler didn't car about how straight the car looked. They had enough of a problem ensuring assembly line workers would show up for work sober or in a good mood to ensure build quality was 'good enough' to get the car on a dealer lot to sell. Keep in mind buyers of almost all of these cars used them for transportation and didnt plan on keeping them for many years.
