Need to track down this carb issue

A while back I picked up a lightly used Holley Street Avenger 670. Put a kit in it to be safe. Long story short, won't idle. Blacked out the plugs from a few minutes of running, and will only stay running by nursing the choke and/or throttle.

Got my hands on a used Edelbrock 750. Fires right up.

Spoke with Holley, the guy didn't seem super happy to talk to me. Says it's a vacuum leak or idle circuit clogged. This carb is very very clean. I pulled it apart again, checked the idle passages, all clear from what I can tell. So it seems that if there's a vacuum leak, it's internal to the carb. I'm kind of out of ideas. Maybe the new power valve is bad?
 
could someone have tried drilling air bleeds or jets on it?
 
Are you sure you used the right gasket between the primary metering block and main body?
 
I don't think anything was drilled on. Don't *think*.

I've checked that gasket twice now, all passages between body and base look to be accounted for in the gasket.

The float levels do look good. I've checked and re-checked that one also.
 
Power valve gasket seated properly?

Can you kill the engine running the idle mixture screws in all the way? Transition slots not uncovered too far?

There are many things that could be causing this.
 
As far as I can tell the PV gasket was ok but it tore when I pulled it last night so I put a new one on (haven't run with that yet). Slots not too exposed, hard to tell if idle screws will kill it since it dies on it's own.
 
Ok, so I broke it down the other day. Everything looked fine. Gaskets look right. Put it back together and same issue. What it looks like is the fuel may be leaking straight out the base plate from somewhere. I'm going to run fuel to it and watch, see if I can figure it out. Thought I'd post before anyway to see if anyone had seen that happen before.
 
Long time I know, no update. Been wanting to get that fixed lately. I picked up a temporary carb that's too big and runs pig rich, hasn't been that big a deal since I'm just pulling it in and out of the garage for priming and blocking.

I'm leary of investing more money in to it at this point when I can pick up a new Quick Fuel carb and be done with it. Very disappointing.
