Turbo Scamp

Rims came in two weeks ago and tires arrived late last week. Here's what the rear looks like mounted up. Ignore the blue tape which has some incorrect info. These are 17x9.5 inch rims, and the tires are 275x40's. These look HOT, if I do say so myself! :burnout:

You three point shooting , with .04 on the clock bastard.. That's sneaky, guy.. Love it...
 
So with wheels mounted, I thought I'd give you all a look at what TurboScamp looks like... Still tuning, some final wiring and cosmetic details to finish up, then get it on the road and break it in. It's been a long, long road, but I'm definitely seeing light at the end of the tunnel!

Going to be like driving on Ice Skates when it comes on boost with those low pro tires in the back........ Will never hook.

This isn't a drag car that I'm going to be launching at 6,000 rpm, Mad Dart. As a daily driver,I really don't need a lot of sidewall flex. This turbo doesn't kick in until 3,200 rpm, so unless I mash the gas pedal doing 70 on the highway, wheel spin isn't a concern. Besides, if I take it to the track, I can always switch to 15's with more sidewall.

408 CI, compression of 8.5:1, with freeway flyer 3.23 gears. Since this is going to be my daily driver, the idea was to make it as streetable as possible with extras thrown in for fun. ;-)
 
I love the car and can't wait to hear how it runs! I daily drive my Turbo Dart and it is a blast. Really makes a great sleeper, I know you are going to love it.

Well the engine in my Scamp was built for boost, 410CI , 9:1 Compression, Solid Roller cam etc. I have it on Juice now with about a 180 Hit.... It comes on the pipe hard and 3200rpm comes very quick without the Juice. I do have Ford 9" with Ladder bar & 4.30 gears in it right now.

3:23 gears may be too low with boost. Lots of guys are 3.0 and even under that with Turbo's. I know using an 8 3/4 rear end has you limited in selection of gears.

You for sure will have a handful when it gets into the boost. A standard NA 400+CI motor is plenty of torque, yours will be mega on boost.... Will be fun,fun,fun!!

True..... I see a rear end upgrade on the way. That 8 3/4 will most likely break at some point.

Well, we'll see. I just don't foresee myself launching at a high enough rpm to be into the boost. Again, this is a STREET car, not a drag car. I'm too old to be lighting it up at every stop light! :glasses7:
 
Saw the custom air filter housing assembly. Trick.
 
Sorry for the delayed response, 67Dart273. I've been out of town on vacation and taking care of some business...

Yes, the air filter has been modified to act as the pressure bonnet. The turbo exits through a hole in the inner fender and is connected to a filter which was mounted in the front passenger side wheel well. Here are a few pictures showing the filter and custom splash shield necessitated by the mounting location. Road debris will be deflected, and air flow should be great.

Looks awesome. I'm a huge fan of Steve stropes designs at pure vision! Wheel spin is always an issue. I built a 360 ci duster for a good friend with twin T04s stock ported heads and 9.5 to 1 compression. It has a 904 backed by a 8 3/4 2.94 gear set with a spool. That car runs 10 ohs at 140mph. He runs a 275/60R15 street tire for freeway cruising. It will annihilate the tires at anything under a hundred. And I when I say annihilate I mean it goes straight for the rev limiter. Just be careful is my point. I think I'm a pretty experienced driver and it scares me haha. Oh and it came real close 200mph on the dyno when we were setting it up!

I think he should to get use to driving it so he will be Ready for Whatever!

Thanks, turbodart68. If you like the car, I take it as a compliment. Pure Vision does great detail work (like the traditional air cleaner turned into a pressure hat), but this design is all mine, not Steve's. ;-)

I appreciate your words of warning. Believe me, I know better than to jump on it. I DON'T have a spool, and I DON'T have heads that flow like the Mississippi. I would have put wider tires on the back, but wanted the use of my back seat so I didn't tub it. With that in mind, I realize I'll need a gentler touch on the throttle. Good thing is that unlike a supercharger, the turbo doesn't kick in until 3,200 rpm, and I'll be keeping the boost light at 6-8 psi.

Once the car is ready and we can adjust the suspension, I'm sure that will also help alleviate some of the wheel spin. Obviously, time behind the wheel getting used to the characteristics of this car will also help me avoid too many surprises.
 
Right you are. Started with biscuit mounts and they'll never hold. Check out the new solid mounts and other goodies that came in this week...



Now you said this will be your everyday driver., and I seen you are using solid mounts. Your comfort level is probably different than mine, so this is just my 2 cents. But, my dad had those exact solid mounts in his dart that he only drove off and on, and they rattled the car and made it uncomfortable to cruise around in. He then tried just one on the drivers side, but it still rattled. So, we ended up putting the Schumacher strap mounts on with normal rubber mounts on his dart and my 408 duster, and it is so much better and we have not had any problems with them. Now we are not making the power you will, but I have not heard anything bad about them yet. Just figured I would say something, as that would be a ruff ride everyday, to me anyway.
