What does this switch activate?

See if your reverse light switch is unhooked.

Here's what this is starting to look like..........

Someone "may have used" the factory backup light wiring to activate a nitrous switch.

That 2 terminal connector you are holding looks like the backup switch connector, and the wire colors match.

Either that or it was "wired to something" and coincidence that your backup lamp connector just happened to be "hanging" there.

Not that any of this matters but that switch really looks like it came from the factory, but your guess is probably the best given what little history I have.

Wild guess but here goes. In drag racing at night you have to have at least one light on the rear of the car. I did this by wiring the back up lights to ignition feed so I never had to remember to turn lights on. I know you said the previous owners didn't race the car, but maybe the others did. My point is maybe micro switch used to turn on lights when gas pedal is mashed to floor. Violet color wire went to back up lights. Or maybe used as a idol up solenoid switch when staging the car. Turned on when you did burn out. Turned off when you launched. Finally, maybe the switch needed to be hidden. Just some guesses?

That switch looks like the one Marty and I used to actuate the space time continuum, we really got jiggy with that little whip..

Honestly, it will take WAY less time to trace the wires to where they go than keep responding to this thread. It's not like it's a computerized bundle of a new car.

I didn't bother to read the rules, but why would you need anything more complicated than the standard issue taillight(s)?

my new form S didn`t have one back in the day. the one I`m resto modding now didn`t have one either, I`d pull it clear off if it was mine!

You didn't need anything else. Just that you remembered you had to turn them on. If you forgot to turn the tail lights on you are DQ. So I wired my back up lights to ignition feed. This way as soon as I turned the key they where on. I ran both so if a bulb went out I had a back up on. Remember they only had to be on at night. Easy to forget to turn on lights.

What's the vin on your car?
Maybe you have a car that the factory used for some R&D then threw into the sales pool when they were done ?
Or possibly was owned by a Chrysler engineer that modded out a few things or used for street racing on the side...?

It appears to be an old install by someone that had knowledge and access to Chrysler parts and pieces. chances are that if it was some yahoo in his ( or her..) garage they would have used run of the mill wires/ connectors and switch.

Just my observation.

LOL LOL LOL. I needed a good laugh. I have tried to think of a funny retort, but I think they have all been taken.

Old road racing trick, after the apex when you go hard, the brake lights come on. plays hell on the nerves of anybody sneaking up behind you!

I would do the same thing with the rain light in my Formula Vee :)

Gee...I thought I was the only Formula Vee driver that knew that one!:finga:

I ran a vintage FV1, 1968 Zink C4. I love vintage racing. So many little tricks to those cars. I ran with CVAR out of DFW, great club. www.corinthianvintagerace.com
You can't beat having the guy that is consistently out running you all day, come up and give you a few pointers, and help you tweak the car so you can keep up to make the racing more competitive and enjoyable for everyone.

A muscle-ish car from the 60's with a switch on the gas pedal? It must be a nitrous switch. That's my vote.

I think it might be a AC comp. cut off switch. IF car has AC! :burnout:MT

Here's the scenario, you are cruising down the street, you flip off the key and coast for a second and push the pedal to the floor when you want to fire the spark plugs you have installed on your muffler tips. shoots flame about 3 feet.

like the idea of an A/C cut out, was trying to come up with rev limiter to cut out the A/C, but a WOT switch seems easier to hook up, since the wires run close to the pedal. Thanks every one.

Secret agent smoke emitter... when the car is floored it emits smoke to get away from the roadrunner.......or any other pesky rabbit...

Or some smart Dad wired it up to the horn before he let his kid start taking the car out..

Now that's funny! My dad had a switch behind the ashtray so it killed the car when open!

WOT switch to light off the tailpipes. Any holes/bungs in your exhaust near the tips? Or its nitrous. Sneaky Pete.
