Can someone confirm that you can use a 440 crank & rods to build a 383 stroker. (434ci.) & if so is that all the bigger you can build one with that combo. Has anyone built one them selves ?

Yep 440 crank and rods will work but will need some machine work. Got to turn the mains down and cut down the counter weights

440 source sells the stroker kit. C.I. is in the 430's depending on your bore.

Yea I checked them out but I was hoping to save some money. I already have the 440 crank & rods. Maybe I will just buy there crank.

Member fisher built a 431 stroker with a 440 crank turned down and cut the counterweights 0.100" to fit the block.

I want to say with the Diamond flat tops Edelbrock heads and a lunati solid voodoo cam, pushed over 525hp....

I built one a few years ago and wrote a magazine article about it: http://www.hotrod.com/how-to/engine/mopp-0605-mopar-performance-383-stroker-engine/

I also wrote a book on BB Mopar engines. You might want to pick up a copy of the book before you get too deep into your project.

My .02 - here is my plan - not sure which direction I want to go yet (NA or turbo) but it's the cheapest route..

Factory forged 440 crank cut to fit ($150 + machine work)
Eagle 440 (6.76") H beam rods w/ Chevy .990" pin ($500)
440source forged 438 stroker pistons ($500)

Nice article Andy......

Thanks. There is a follow on article where I put a set of Indy heads on the engine. Unfortunately, the bottom end wasn't up to the extra power and it broke. It was a sweet engine with the Edelbrock heads.

I have one I'm putting in my 73 duster. I bought it already assembled. I am going to back it with a 4 speed.
