Is it just me that I feel it odd to see brand new cars at nostalgic car shows?. Like a brand new 2014 - 2015 Mustang or challenger or Chevy Camaro? These cars will have their day 40 years from now? Are they expecting to win a trophy for their brand new car?:wack:

It drives me crazy, in fact I hate it.
At a local show there was a new Corvette and the owner had the window sticker laminated and he displayed on the windshield. I was like, okay your wealthy and a moron!

there was a car show in town here years ago, and a guy had his brand new Trash Am in it. Somehow he won 'best interior'.
As he's going up for his trophy, someone yells out "you should give that award to GM!"

I don't understand that or the 'clapped out POS' in shows, but you see both.
(but I'd rather see a clapped out 40 year old car than a new car in a show lol)

yea!! there's a local bodyman ( and upholstery) that does just old cars. o k so he is a chevy guy. he told me last year he was done going to the local car shows with anything he owns. last time at one, a new truck wins the prize!!! LOL!!!!!!

the local Mopar clubs has always invited all the clapped out projects to show up, and I many times have more fun talking to that guy than the guy with the restored car he paid to have done. the guy that struggles to do is won work gets praise from me!

And when I see that I feel like I am at a new car dealership. Because there is usually a line of them and the only difference is the color of paint.

Went to a car show a few years back and there was a brand new SS Impala with a big sign...100% pure stock. I walked up to it and I said no it's not. He like instantly goes goofy. When he was done I told him whoever puts air in his tires for him put the wrong valve stem cap on it. What I should have said was when your wife was putting air in the tires for you she got the caps wrong.

Nostalgia race events at the 2 tracks i run are '72 and down no "rice burners" or new crap allowed..just as it should be.

I went to a local Mopar show back in the spring. probably 20 % of the cars there were new models. it didn't really bother me ....but , I have NO interest in them. if I did I would see them at the dealership!??? BUT, those guys are members of the club, they no doubt love their new models, so they are a part of the "dog and pony show", fine with me.... maybe 20 years from now,, they will have memories of those cars or maybe still own them!!!????? !!!!!

its the millenials... dont even know what a stall converter or carburator is for that matter...the art of "hot rodding" is long gone to these peeps...

There's always someone who will say that certain cars don't belong at car shows.
Whether it's new cars and trucks, motorcycles, rice rockets, beaters and project cars, 4 doors, 6 cylinder cars, race cars, lowered customs, rat rods, as well as '73 and up anything!
That being said, haters will always hate.

I cant stand it either. for some reason they seem to think those new things are deserving of a car show when anyone can go to a dealer and see hundreds of them

This year, the Tacoma chapter of Mopars Unlimited advertised a two day show. Saturday was for new cars and Sunday for the traditional classics. A good solution that isn't always possible for many organizers.

A local drive-in used to hold a monthly show for old cars and bikes. When the night was taken over by the ugly little cube cars who played their rap music loud enough for all to hear, the old cars quit coming and the event died. Naturally, the cube cars didn't bother to patronize the drive-in, so good intentions by a merchant actually hurt their business.

the rule used to be 73 and prior.....

kinda like the guy with the most expensive car wins the trophy.... month after month after month after year after year.... always hated the ...he with the most money in it wins it....

I think all cars should be at the car show, but I also like the idea here of the car show for certain areas of cars. And for me personally I think you'll find a hard time finding a thread that I ever participated in where I said the word hate.

My point is that you will never please everyone.
I never said that anyone used the word ''hate''.
The statement 'haters will always hate'' is a vague generality to describe the point that people have different tastes, beliefs, and interests. Some may strongly disapprove of a car they deem is insuperior or does not fit in with their narrow field of opinion, and therefore does not belong.
My opinion is that if it's an open car show, all makes and models of cars are welcome regardless of year.
On a closed or restricted car show, then whatever they have categories for are welcome, as long as they meet the parameters set out.
As far as the new cars go and do they belong is a personal choice. It's like a magazine rack with various types and topical publications displayed. if you don't want to read or buy ''Dog Fancy'' then skip over it and look at the magazine you choose. That doesn't mean that it doesn't belong there.........

Laugh My *** OFF, Should I then sell My '91 Iroc Lotus 2.2 568 powertrain or
just Be a purist :dink:

Oh, in my opinion don't waste your time with the ''trophy'' awards.
If you are worried about that, you are there for the wrong reason.

I used to have my underwear in a knot about this but these guys ( and gals) with different tasts are just as passionate about their cars as we are whether it is a Ricer or a Brother with 20's on his Le Sabre. The late model Challenger owners are all about their cars and they do-dad them up to make them different. No different than we are. I'm not a big fan of the Hispanice and their wild paint and small wheels and hydraulics but that croud is very passionate about their builds. tmm

In general, I agree with you but there's quite a few getting into the hotrod realm. Most of the car shows I've been to thisbyear, it's the older generation, those in their 40s plus pulling in with the new body stuff. Us younger folks can't afford the new cars.

But yes, it drives me nuts as well. Especially when a 2012 corvette wins best of show....bone stock nothing done. These people don't have their hearts and souls tied into their cars like we classic guys do. It's one thing to take a car off the show room and it's another to take a car and make it represent you and your own personality.

I have friends that are into the older street rods, Model A's and T's. I'll bet they think the same about us as we do about the new generation.

Brand , years, stock , custom, race, modified.
Plain and simple.

I don't have a problem with newer cars at a car show. after all it is a car show. If awards are given out then it is a horse of a different color. I think it should have the years broken down like 80 and older and then 81 and newer. there is no way an older car can compete with a new Corvette or Mopar or Mustang. So if you are going to have a car show to show old and new, split the classes so you have an equal chance in your age group.

This is why i am selling my street car and going back nostalgia drag racing.... no bones about it good people and fun..

I like the solution that Mopars Unlimited Tacoma came up with for a 2 day show - newer stuff on Saturday, old stuff on Sunday, 2 day swap meet.

I have been seeing new modified cars recently that have the modifications to handling, traction and power, even some great custom paint jobs - these guys are really doing just what folks did to 50s to 70s cars when they were relatively new. Lighten up on these guys, some of their cars are 10 years old now. I find myself having to make some adjustments in my thinking when some hot rodded Neons, Chrysler Shelby cars, etc. are now 20 - 30years old. I'll give them one thing - many of these guys drive their cars all the time - which is more than I can say for some of the old car trailer queens. I swear if I wrote down the odometer reading on some of these rigs and compared them year to year they would roll up 20 miles or less. Yeah there are new car folks like this too, but I bet the ratio of driven cars is way higher for them than us.

When I go to shows I never vote for stock cars that are newer, but I sure give the modifieds a look over and reward the guys who really are hot rodding their rides.
