4-pin wiring harness?

I threw the Dart on the old Sun machine last night, and I think my old points distributor is worn. I have a tight electronic distributor that came with the engine ('74 225), and I'd like to throw it in.

Obviously, my two options are HEI or Mopar... If I go Mopar I'd like to keep it simple and use a 4-pin wiring harness design...does anybody sell that wiring harness? That way I can use a 2-pin ballast resistor.

Oh yeah, I understand HEI is better. :)

Mopar P/N P3690152AB is a small add on wiring harness that will allow you to install a 4 pin Chrysler ECU in a engine that originally had points and uses a two pin ballast resistor. The ballast resistor should be 1.25 ohms for the orange box ECU.
 
Just a side note, if you toss your original dist in the truck, and if your system quits, all you need do to get the car running is unplug the ECU, stick the points dist back in, and hook the primary wire up to coil NEG. This of course does nothing for the coil or ballast
 
Got it...I just ordered the kit with the box, harness, and ballast resistor from Jegs. I will definitely throw the old distributor in the parts box in the back of the wagon. If it all works out, I may just get a spare box for it. Thanks!
 
I put the orange box setup in and it runs great. It always ran pretty well, but it idles smoother and runs cleaner going down the road. Worth the money so far!
 
here is a hint for the chrysler elec ign. DO carry two spar ballast resistors in the glove box. they tend to go out in the heat and cold.

I'm pretty paranoid about stuff like that. I have two spares in there already. I also threw the old distributor in the back and ordered another orange box for a spare. :)
 
Tell you guys 'whut.' First Mopar breakerless was stripped off a car in about 1973, which I promptly adapted to my car. I don't remember what was wrong, maybe the kid wanted an Accel or Mallory

Anyhow, I've had a few since then, and in all the years from about 73 to present, I doubt I've replaced more than 1 or 2 ballast resistors. Might have been because one broke from cold water (in my old Landcruiser, had a 360, 340, 318 over the years!!)

Having said that I know use HEI. Mostly, because since they are more popular, they are more available, and the "modern" Mopar boxes may have a quality problem
