331 Hemi Blown Help

-
First of all, it was a suggestion, people can have an opinion. Second of all, you can use the 331 and 354 heads on the 392, making that a moot point. Third of all, where did I say anything about being stuck with anything, and where did I say he shouldn't use the supercharger? Fourth of all, what's the problem with using aftermarket internal parts made for other make engines?

Well,You are certainly entitled to suggestions and opinions, just as I am to point out
the irrationality of such. The point was the OP has all he needs to make big power without
the taller deck ht. and increased wt.,the former being the reason for the inferior cyl. heads
in the first place. The added expense for finding such is just one more logical hash in the neg.
Using the 331 heads on the 392 requires an intake system mod or custom job =$$$,and
of course means no hood clearance, which is at a premium to start with.
Stating using a 331 as hardly worth the effort implies the OP is stuck w/an inferior eng.,
and I was referring to Mr. Norm's Supercharged 340 cars, which nobody here would argue that
a HEMI headed eng. of the same disp. would somehow be insufficient.
I have used brand X parts in cyl. head work and other areas of eng. building, the point
again was the eng. has probably been raced more miles a 1/4 at a time than any other in
history.I find it hard to imagine there is a reason to tap the poncho bin for any parts,???

If you can weld, the U Fab intakes are still made. Bout 150 bucks.

I bet all those early Hemis drag racing back in the day were using stock rods and pistons.

As stated above, the bottom end can handle a bunch of HP,properly prepped.ARP
didn't exist then,so the stock rods can handle more now than ever before, and those who
build them can say exactly how much load that is B4 they become iffy. The point exactly is
there were many N/A and blown 1st gen Hemis raced relentlessly,w/plenty of aftermarket
support accordingly, forged pistons of all types certainly were not in short supply.I'm sure
rod length changes etc. were tried by many looking for "the magic",and anything worth
having would've survived the test of time.
As a butcher of nice cars, I can't understand why you would settle for a mundane
440,instead of dropping a 528ci Hemi in there.Seems hardly worth the effort when a stroked
SB w/Indy or Eddy heads would smoke it anyway. Poke Poke.

Because it's not a stock 440, that's why. And if I built one of my 392's, the only stock parts would be the block and head castings. The rest of the parts are all aftermarket.

Why not get the Hot Heads aluminum heads? They are badass. There is also a company supposedly fixin to cast new early Hemi blocks. Least that's the word on the street from Gary at Rocker Arms Unlimited.....he said last I talked to him the company was setting up shop in the building next to theirs.

I would start out with the primo set of 331 heads I have, then upgrade to the aluminum heads. I want to build an early 70's style funny car, with somewhere around a 415", injected alky engine, with Hilborn eight-stack injectors, Vertex mag, all old school parts.

You got a funny already?

Hell Yeah to that! I hope we're not losing the OP here, hopefully he has contacted some
of the early Hemi guru's, and has a plan of execution for his ride now.Lets hope he's good at
welding,otherwise he's gonna need a friend,lol!!
Keep us updated and good luck jeffrey:coffee2:

Hah!,Busted!!! Aliens My ***,now I know where those crop circles are comin' from!
:farao:

I'm probably sitting on all the parts you'd need. Stroked 331 with boxed rods, sodium filled valves, Howards roller, aluminum roller rockers, Cragar manifold, new zoomies, 6-71, etc... - Even have the funny.

I'm sitting on a decent pile of blocks, heads, and internal parts. I have the Hilborn injectors, a brown cap Vertex, stroker crank, several sets of aluminum rods, etc..

I do like your funny, that's cool! Do you know any history on it, what kind of chassis it is, etc.?

The original chassis is long gone. I picked the car up in the 70s from someone that had a sprint car chassis builder (Blue Engineering) make the new one. It's set up W-I-D-E. The previous owner was trying to create a custom two-seater show car. No rear suspension yet. Rack & pinion front. I don't have a complete history on the car. It was metalflake red when I bought it with Ziebart sponsorship. When I stripped off the paint there was a blue and white paint scheme beneath the red that was layed out similar to McCewen's Duster.
