Well, now Im embarrassed. I totally missed seeing the little piece of the can.
-So did you give the rotor a twist yet, to see if theres any mechanism under that trigger plate? The only dual trigger dizzy I ever saw was a locked out item. Also, it did not have the can. The can was on the computer, which was mounted on the passenger fender apron. Youre gonna have to follow the trigger wires up the harness to see where it/they go. During those years, CARS had the computers mtd inside the cabin on the passenger side, behind the kick panel. Your truck, I dont know.
-But you know what; its kinda too early to go hunting for it. You need to put the timing light on it and see what its doing.Until we see those numbers Im gonna hang back.TTYL
 
If I followed a friends instruction properly and such. It seems the total timing is About 33* and initial being close to the 14.5* mark. It ran amazing last night. I did not mess with the rotor. I completely spaced it. I'll look at it when I replace the cap and rotor. It's running really well at the moment, so I will chime in or send you a pm when I get more info/results. I really appreciate yours and everyone else's input/info.
 
Well, there you go.
Our mopars will usually accept up to 36* or so, and respond well to the extra degrees in the mid-range.Make sure the vacuum timing is working too, cause when it quits the part-throttle and cruise fuel consumption goes up.
And hows your stumble now?
 
It's almost gone, but I think a lot of that is in the secondary ignition too. I'll know more when those are replaced
 
If you turned the idle speed down with the new timing, then you may have to re-adjust the accelerator pump linkage, depending on if it was/was not correctly set by the previous mechanics. Just make sure that theres no slop in the linkage and that fuel immediately squirts out of the nozzles when the throttle lever is moved.
 
Seem to. I'm going to have mpg numbers tomorrow. I think that will tell me a lot about where I am with it
 
Wow. I havent updated this in a while. getting around 9mpg in town. adjusted the timing, carb, and swapped out intake gaskets. A lot better than the 4mpg i was getting upon purchase. still have a few bugs to work out

I still think there is room for improvement.
For comparison my 78 power wagon pulling my 3300 lb camper with the bed full of firewood and coolers in the mountains averages 9 mpg loaded.
Running empty around town it averages 14.5 mpg.
 
Do me a favor and check what number edelbrock carb you've got. One of their carbs is called an "emissions" carb. A guy I worked with owned one and it was so lean on the primary side that the only way he could drive it was with the choke half closed to richen it up. After changine the main jets the carb worked great!
 
I use the left port on my eddy for the vac advance.

Ok, so your carb is the 1406.
Thanks, don't know why I missed that on your initial post. I think that's the one they used to call the emission model, now they call it the fuel economy model. If you've got any tuning parts try a richer jet on the primary side. If you don't, try an experiment, try replace the springs under the pistons that they hang from with something stiffer. or maybe put a piece of nail, or coat hangar under each piston to not let the piston go all the way down at idle, this will effectively richen it at idle and low speed. See if that improves anything and report back.

Its already rich. They swapped the stockies out with bigger jets.0
