Hey All,

I am installing a 4 speed 833 O/D in my 68 Valiant 273 car right now. I have my Trans and bell but no clutch s/u and flywheel.

I don't want to break the bank b/c I am going to swap in a 5.9 EFI motor in the future and will have to replace the flywheel at that point to account for crank position sensor, etc. And I won't be racing the 273 in the meantime. Just something to cruise with.

I was thinking of going with:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Flywheel-10...-440-Mopar-Dodge-Chrysler-BB-SB-/161823474891

for a flywheel, 10.5 130 tooth

And:

For a clutch, press plate etc.

Does this sound like a good plan?

One thing I don't understand is how flywheel tooth count is determined. 122 vs. 130 vs. 143 tooth etc. Is the determining factor how far the starter sits from the center line of the crank/ bellhousing diameter/ Etc. ? Is it possible to use a 143 tooth flywheel in a car that originally had a 130 tooth FW with no other changes? Just curious here.

Thanks,

CE

Starter mounting position on bellhousing determines tooth count on flywheel needed.
Correct some starters mount further away from crank center and have a higher tooth count.
Size of pressure plate and disc is determined by bolt pattern on flywheel.
Clutch disc spline determined by input shaft on transmission.

Nope. Whatever fits the bell is "whatever fits the bell" and cannot be changed

Glad to know my brain is working correctly :blob:
