engine on the stand

Its bean a few years since I had a small block on an engine stand but I don't like the little lean it has,so i put a piece of wood off to the side to help,not likely need it.I know there are angels there right,am off my mind .:eek:ops:The guy who i got it from said he had a 390 ford on it.

that seems to lean more then usual
I would like to see a picture from the same angle with the motor turned upside down...I would almost expect it to lean the opposite way then
 
I've got about 650 pounds of a Gen I 392 Hemi on a similar style stand and it doesn't lean down like the one you're showing.

Not now there is still oil in the pan.My father in law made me a stand some 20 years it did the same thing.
 
If the lower two arms are at the lowest bolt holes probably not a lot you can do. If I have an engine sitting on the stand for a while I will cut and notch a 2x4 to support the front of the crank for peace of mind. It does look like the vertical arm on the stand is leaning to me in the picture.
 
put a level on the upright of the stand and then on the 2X4
one of them is leaning but its hard to tell which on (looks like the stand itself)
 
To me it looks like the main beam supporting the engine is leaning too far forward. A little sag is to be expected but I think the angles on the stand are a bit off and it's causing the engine to sag a lot more than normal. The stand I'm using to store my old 318 is angled back slightly and the engine sits almost level.

I have tried the beam booth ways the outer way it leaned worse.If anyone want to come over to straighten this out fell free.:D

I would just put a 5 pound pack of sugar beneath each leg :D

If you're worried about the structural integrity of the engine stand then I'd just buy a new one. For peace of mind if nothing else. Mine was $60 from Summit and it has been great so far.

Looks like it's sagging more than it should.

How do you have it attached? I can't see from here, lol.
 
you don't suggest he tightens up the upper bolts do you ?

I dunno, the upright leg isn't leaning too far forward, I can only guess as to how it's mounted.

When I put an engine on my stand it pulls the leg forward (some), but non of my three stands sag like that.

Put a peice of 2X4 under each front wheel....Shazamm your engine is level. : )
 
I'm looking at the bottom of your stand. Is there clearance (red arrow) where the tubes slide in. If so, maybe you can take the weight off and slide in some shims on the (green arrow) top face. That would tend to tilt the upright back.

I was thinking that as well ^^^, I am also thinking he may be able to use shorter spacers on the two top bolts to upright it a tad.

Like I said, we can't see how it's bolted up.

Snake, post a closer pic of how it's bolted to the engine.

Try dropping those bottom brackets to the bottom holes.

And you could pull a couple of those washers from under the bolt head and put them between the bracket and the block instead.

I would have to use a nut there are no threads there.
 
Well i tryed what Bad Sport,and Daves69 said to try gained about 1/2 inch that 2x3 does nothing now.The day just got to long for me so i give up.Thanks to all that offer to help,if it is ok to just leave it I will.Dont feel like spending a 100 bucks to get a new 1 now.o well the fun go on.:D
