Hey guys anyone know if 225 70 14 tires will fit on a stock 68 Barracuda formula S front and rear. I have a chance to pick up 4 red lines. Now I am running 215 75 14 and they are pretty tight on the front .. thanks

Would matter what exact rims you are running them with.

Diameter, width, and backspace?

Yes... they are stock steelies rims for a formula s 14 x 5.5

Yes, they will fit.EDIT Wait, let me qualify that. I believe they will fit if everything is stock.
I'm running 235/60-14s on 7 inch rims, on the front of my lowered 68S. These are about 25.1 diameter. Your tires compute to 26.4 diameter.Thats 1.3 difference on the D but only half that to the fenders. At stock ride height and on factory rims, it should be no problem. I have lots of room, and they never rub, even under extreme cornering. And I have run taller tires also with no issues.

Wow ok i thought they would rub on the front.. I even put a stop on the sale. Anyone have a picture of 225 70 14 on a stock 5.5 x 14 rim 68 barracuda to see how they look? Thanks AJ

What the backspacing and offset on your 14x7 rims?

What' the backspacing and offset of factory 14x5.5 rims?

Most oem rims are a zero offset. My Kidney slot mags are close to a Zero, but a little offset ,IDK.
So the backspace would be 3.25 on the 5.5 steelies. And maybe as much as 4.0 on the aluminum slots, but I think it was less, like maybe 3.75. Ima guessing. The've been on there since 99. No,not with the same tires, lol.

OP; But seriously, If those Redlines are not radials, they are only good for keeping the chassis off the ground, and not very well at that. I'm hoping this is for restoration purposes, cuz I wouldn't spend the money to mount them, if I had them given to me. And I hope you don't think me an a$$ for saying so, but bias plys and polyglass were junk when brand new, even tho they mighta bin the best in their day.Now I'm not knocking certain biasply slicks here, I'm talking about passenger car tires.

Yes i agree.. the only non radial I would run is my original spare. These red lines I am interested in are a radial tire made by Gillette that I still have to research there quality.. thanks

Hard to tell from these numbers! How much space do you have on the side?

225/70-14 215/75-14 Difference
Diameter inches (mm) 26.4 (670.6) 26.7 (678.1) 0.3 (7.5) 1.1%
Width inches (mm) 8.86 (225) 8.46 (215) -0.39 (-10) -4.4%
Circum. inches (mm) 82.94 (2106) 83.87 (2130) 0.93 (23.56) 1.1%
Sidewall Height inches (mm) 6.2 (157.5) 6.35 (161.25) 0.15 (3.75) 2.4%

BFG, Michelin, and Goodyear do not support a 215/75-14 tire on their websites, so I do not have their data available. What I found was that a 215/70-14 tire is the widest T/A radial that they recommend for a 5½" wide rim. They recommend a minimum of a 6" rim for a 225/70-14.

Will a 225/70 fit on a 5½" rim? Physically, yes. Functionally, no. The bead will be pinched in at the top. This tends to lift the tire at the outer edges, reducing the anticipated gain in tread width.

Agree with 2 Darts -- 225 is too wide for a 5.5" rim, but you can confirm that by looking at the tire manufacturer's fitment chart. 215/70-14 is a good fit on that rim and looks aggressive. Your 215/75-14s seems a little on the tall side to me, although apparently they fit. A diameter in the 25.5 to 26" range might be ideal.

That is one reason why I what to ditch the 215 75 14 they are a tall tire. These 225 70 14 popped up on a local ad. I guess I will keep looking for some 215 70 14 red lines or bite the bullet and buy them new... thanks guy's
