Ordering Espo springs from Canada

-
UPS charges outrageous brokerage fees on everything coming in from the US.

If you live close to a customs office, the only way to avoid getting gouged is to tell the delivery driver that you wish to self clear the package. The parcel is returned to Canada Customs. It's now up to you to go pick it up and pay the taxes. {GST & PST} or {HST} but no UPS brokerage fees can be applied since you're acting as your own broker.

BTW: Whenever possible have anything you buy from the US shipped by US Postal Service. I've had several parcels come to me without any taxes owing & even if there are, Canada Post charges a $5.00 flat fee for brokerage.

Man, that has to be the biggest pain it the arse for you guys.

I have been known to receive stuff here for a member and re-ship via USPS, although springs would be a bit different.

You're not kidding. I'm one of the lucky ones. I live 10min. away from Canada Customs.

Those BA#%$^DS at UPS have a minimum brokerage fee of $14.00. Several years ago I bought a car book online for $11.00. It cost $4.50 to ship by UPS. UPS then charged me $14.00 to clear it through customs. Duty was only $1.32. NEVER AGAIN

...this exactly why i asked.
A number of years ago i bought a rad stateside for about $300 and shipping was added to that.Brokerage fee was over $200 dollars.Having said that i have also purchased from some venders stateside with no brokerage fees...
..so how do they treat items shipped UPS for Springs and Things? (Espo)

I use an outfit called Kinek alternate delivery.. They are a receiver at a US Border city that'll receive, sign, and hold a package for a month for $5 each pkg..

I'll order up a mess of parts ,, or just one nec part,, The wife and I will cross the border,, spend an evening at a nice RV Casino/Resort,, then we can return to Canada with $800 each of duty free stuff, including auto parts etc..

Here's a link to Ontario Kinek locations...

hope it helps... cheers..

PS,, I also have a shipper avail.. that is bonded and brings stuff to the local airport,, and you go to the shipper, get docs,, walk a coupla hundred yards to the Customs Office in the Airport,, pay nec sales taxes,, no duty on classic car stuff.. return to shipper with docs,, pay $17.50 for up to 5 lbs(?).. and more as you can expect.. here's a link just for reference,, that may help you find a bonded receiver near you....

This ALSO helps get past that "won't ship to Canada" B.S.., cuz you have it shipped and signed for at a U.S. Address...

cheers..

I've done the same for members in Canada, Sweden, Switzerland and Brazil. Some of the packages were pretty big - seat foam, carpet, etc.

^^This^^ Thanks Grant that was definitely the way to go for big stuff . You can even get the Free Shipping everybody offer inside the US to get your stuff sent to the US address of the shipper -Seawings rocks . Small stuff I still use USPS and if you can talk the shipper into putting their name and address in the return address area on the package instead of a business name then Canada Post will deliver as a piece of mail with no brokerage or taxes charged :yawinkle::yawinkle: , I just got a spare ignition switch and bezel that way in the mail last week .

Thnx Chris,,

I had forgotten to mention about the free shipping to the border from suppliers when avail.,, so total shipping landed in Canada was $17.50

cheers

I ordered my XHD springs from the local Mopar dealer and paid $300 for both. You could also get a CBI box and cross to pick them up.

With the brutal exchange rate now plus shipping costs, why not do what this guy suggests (and what I also did several years ago) and buy MP XHD springs from your local Chrysler dealer. No shipping charges involved when ordered through the dealer. Can't hurts to get a price from the Chrysler dealer and compare it to what your all in cost will be from ESPO.

sure... Springs that are $200 in the US are $500 + in Canada...

Not sure where you are in Ontario but I live in Michigan and are in the process of moving back to Georgetown Ontario. If you like you could ship them to my Michigan address and I would bring them back for you. I go to Canada every weekend to see my family.
