Does anybody know what the fastest slant 6 powered drag car is? Or how much power the most powerful slant 6 engine produces? Just curious, thanks.
 
What kind? N/A? Boosted? Nitrous? There are some as quick as eight seconds.
 
As far as I know the quickest slant six "door slammer" is Will Burns, from Va in a 67 Cuda
9.65 in the 1/4 mile, and hurting the engine just after the 1/8 mile mark. He is a member here, and maybe will post more/correct info.
 
Steve Nitti out of the Twin Cities in Minnesota - he has a blown custom methanol and fuel injected six putting out over 525 hp. Its the highest horsepower /6 I've ever seen. A really wicked duster!

He also has a 'like new' 66 baracuda

I've heard Will's slant six at the Dinwiddie VA track. Serious stuff and earmuffs definitely required! It is one nasty and fast slant six to say the least. A great guy as well.
 
It's hard to get over N/A 300 hp cause of the terrible head flow
 
370 naturally aspirated ponies have been obtained before, and I believe 630 is the most force fed that I'm aware.
 
The car made 280 wheel hp naturally aspirated (6800 rpm) and 480 wheel hp with 15 lbs of boost (around 6000 rpm cant recall right now).
I have been pretty busy this year but did get some body work done on the car. Machine work is done on a new "experimental" motor, should get together soon. Also going to get started on a more normal motor in case the "experimental" motor dose not last. If you can call a high rpm slant normal. Sheet metal intake also should be done in the next couple weeks (yes I will post a picture). Hope fully we will make a pass this fall. Thank you guys for the kind words.

Right after the second video, I pulled my '73 Duster up to the line and ran the slowest time of the day...

A cool race to watch, old tech vs new tech. Old tech won that time.
 
I was there at Madon Dixon when his Cuda turned 9.45. There was a pretty big smile on his face afterwards.

1,000 ft= 7.58
1/4 mile= 9.626 at 118.79

The most powerful is Tilley's in Aussie land. There was a dyno graph on .org of his slant six where it made over 600hp.

The only other one might layton drake. Never heard actual numbers but it ran 9.80's in 1/4 and was not that light.

I was close. That's still damn fast and fun to watch. I suspect Tilly's is the Aussie hemi, but cannot swear by that.

I remember that day! Verrrry impressive! I think he lost the engine after that run. I was talking to him in the pits, but cannot remember b/c I think he had engine trouble the year before too.

Oh and just saw slantsixness post. 9.6 will work. A heck of a run either way.

In fact the Oct. 10-11 slant race is just around the corner at Mason Dixon in MD.

Cox Bros 66 Dart. Methanol/nitrous

I came across the Cox Bros. 66 Dart at a show maybe 6-7 years ago, probably the Mopar Nats. It is (was) the most impressive looking slanty I've ever seen and I go to a LOT of Mopar-only events. I never saw it run, or even heard it but it looked to be a maxxed out race car.
I'll try to find and post the pictures I took when I find time.
 
Here's a slick Lancer from Mopar Max a couple weekends ago. I am sorry to say I didn't ask how fast it went. Shame on me. tmm

That there is team green. Both times that I have seen them they run high 10s. You can find videos of them on YouTube out running a hellcat. Never been privileged enough to talk to them.

Interesting question! The pictures shown, all depict high-powered slant sixes in conventional, doorslammer chasses,,, and that is fine, as there are some really bad boys on view, there....

BUT, I have yet to see a really high-horsepower slant six engine, mounted in a dragster chassis. Back in the 1960s, it was possible to see Small-block Chevy-powered dragsters running at weights of under 1,000-pounds, and I don't think a slant six is any heavier than a SBC. Those cars were short, though, so the necessarily-longer- tubing itself, might push the overall weight to a little over 1,000-pounds. With a 150-pound driver and 1,020-pounds of chassiss weight, a 500-horsepower motor would provide enough motive-power to go 7.73-seconds at 175mph, according to the usually-accurate "Wallace Online Calculators."

That would outrun a LOT of V-8 cars...

A shorty-Powerglide with a 3,300-rpm stall converter, and some 10.5" slicks should work well for this little flyer...

SOMEBODY (not me; I just spent all my [limited] money on a doorslammer,) needs to do this! Hell, you could run Super Comp (8.90-bracket) with a 1-second cushion...

Think of the INK you'd get, outrunning all those Big Block Chevys...... LOL!:cheers:
