Had this 4 speed trans sold but it was still on the motor! Took off the trans bolts but the trans wouldnt slip out, so I had to do the bellhousing too! Still wouldn't come apart but I could see down into the clutch assembly! 2 of the pressure plate bolts were gone and the other 2 were backed about 1/2 way! Got the bolts out and removed the entire assembly!! I have to wonder what kind of last ride this thing took....no clutch binding at all, the input shaft is blue, melted and bent, the pilot bushing is fused to the snout and the splines are completely stripped from the front segment, and the input shaft is bent, and broken inside the trans!!!

Can it be straightened and reused???

Anything can be fixed, but that looks TRASHED...... never seen one look that bad!

From what you described,I would say it is toast, all of it

No that input shaft has to be replaced. That might not be all, either.

I was just kidding all, I know it's trashed, but I am hoping that the tailshaft can be salvaged! It is an early A body trans, but it is a 66 trans, so it has a slip joint tailshaft instead of the earlier flange style for the ball and trunnion!

I for one do NOT understand how a gearbox can "look like that" and still be attached, in some way, to an engine!!!!

I can not see it either, I broke the input shaft off a 833 one time in an accident, bell housing broke in several pieces, but the shaft made a clean break.
Now it is my alignment shaft.

If the case is not broke, you might be able to fix it with a new front shaft and bearing retainer.
Those old trans are really tough.

Also don't throw the parts away, I put this old trans back together after sitting for about 20 years, still cant remember why I took it apart, I think I stole the tail shaft off it.

Being in the middle of rebuilding now and seeing how much individual parts are, I'd keep anything that's not bent or broken.

Would have never believed it without pictures.
Not sure what a person would have to do to
make such a mess of a transmission.
Some extreme bell housing/crank misalignment occurred as a result of a totalling accident? Like driving off a cliff.

Closest mess to this I can recall seeing was a Datsun F10 hatchback. Weird U turn of a drive line in that thing. Anyway the flywheel to crank nor the pressure plate to flywheel bolts were torqued properly. Stuff flung all about in there. Owner though the noise was engine failing so decided to drive it till it died. He finally parked it when the clutch pedal went away.
Bro-in-law traded a sack of grass for it. We fixed it with junkyard parts.

Grass, weed, reefer ? was many years ago. Bro-in-law drove that lil car to work and back, fishing, etc.., nearly 2 years so it was a pretty good deal.
