Best Cam for a 340

^^ Eggzactically

Best, if there is such a thing, is best for what? Best can only be used a a descriptor of two very closely matched cams, and even then there can be times when either might be best, or neither.
I went through 3 cams in short order, cuz the first two were only best on paper or in my head.
The biggest problem I see is that I was naive. Picking a too-big cam the first time, and a too small cam the second time. The cam I have today is still not the best. But it's getting there. With every cam change, I had major chassis changes. And multiple tuning changes. So I learned a lot about cam choices. And as has so very often been preached, for a streeter it really is easy to overcam.
Having thus learned a little about cam choices, my next best-cam is going to be a little less duration, a little tighter LDA and as much lift as the cam guy will deliver on the smaller duration lobes.Te vreason for that is the 833/GV ratio spreads. with the rpm drops at under 1500, at redline, I'm gonna exploit that with a tight LDA, at the sacrifice of some low speed torque. I mean is it really necessary to spin the tires all the way through 2 gears? really? At this point I'm willing to give up a lot of low speed torque for a tighter powerband up top. But then IDK, 93 in the 1/8th is pretty good, and I ain't gettin any younger. Still, I know how the 106 cams idle..............Um... Maybe not.
I've always had a dream, since I started this madness. Back in 71, my old 70 Dart 340, ran 98 in the qtr.At age 18, I thought that car was mighty fast/quick. Well I've always wanted to build a combo to run 98 in the eighth. Seems like I'm close, maybe I should call it close enough.
Still, I've always wanted to try an Offy Dualport, with a deep port match, and a big TQ.Just FTHOI. For the heck of it!
