Nitrogen vs. Oxygen

-
O2 "permeates" approximately 3-4 times faster than does N2 through a typical rubber, as is used in tires, primarily
because O2 has a slightly smaller effective molecular size than does N2.

I found this and thought I'd share.

some folks here are confused, tires are never filled with oxygen-most often filled with AIR-78% nitrogen and 21% oxygen

Another one of those conversations where we discuss the finer points and opinions of something that makes a squat of difference on your 40 year old car. :D

I'd use nitrogen on a car that I was racing at 200 miles an hour, but only because it doesn't expand when hot like oxygen and change the tire pressures.

I got new winter tires for my 300 about 5 years ago. Of course I was not asked if I wanted the Nitrogen, they automatically just put it in. I do have to say that the 3 years I ran them, then gave them to my brother (I sold the car) and he ran them for at least 3 more years. Neither one of us ever had to fill the tire with air. They stayed a constant 35psi. Just my experience with it.

Now with that being said I had to purchase tires for my Durango (thanks to some punk *** that slashed 2 of them). I was curious if Nitrogen was still used. I spoke to the counter guy about it and then at a different time the tech that was installing my tires. They both agreed that it was a gimmick and not worth the money! They didnt even have it at the shop, so they didnt have to try to talk people out of it.

same with my Stealth (and these rims have leaked since I got them).

Tire rot? I don't usually talk like this, but are you ******* serious?

That's THE absolute stupidest thing I ever heard. "My" plan with tires on a hot rod include wearing them out WAY faster than they ROT.

dumbasses unite.......and then GO AWAY.

awesome totally awesome lmao
