Mine was hacked up for a stereo. I would love to see a pic of a bare frame if anyone has one. Need to do repairs. Thanks guys!

Here's my local powder coater holding mine from my 67 Barracuda. Yours should
be very close to this image.

ok, they made rally dashes for 5 years (67-71) and each year is different but in regards to the radio, 67 had a knob type radio that used chrome knobs.....68, 69, and 70 used a thumbwheel radio.......71 returned to a knob type but with black plastic knobs. Even though 67 and 71 both have knobs, they are still completely different radios.

In regards to what you have here which I assume is your 70 swinger 340 we all saw in another thread. Thumbwheel radios have a very large face so I would bet that what appears to be a cut dash most likely is not. The opening for a thumbwheel radio is right about 7 inches wide and right about 2 inches high. That opening is enough to fit a modern radio without cutting.

in regards to radio mounting ...you might check and make sure no one trimmed off the upper radio mount tab

what you have in 70 is two "keyhole" bolts and they slip into the recessed keyhole looking slots and provide a stud on the back for the radio. These keyhole bolts look like the ones for the speaker in the dash but they are bigger.

Now in regards to the radio.

I assume you want to go back to original. So one word about the radio.

The radios in 70 have the same mounting face as the 68 and 9 cuda which is unique from all other car lines and models .......however the correct one for 70 will have a face plate that says "Chrysler Solid state"

In the 60s Chrysler used face plates indicating the division and model it was installed in (dodge solid state, Valiant solid state......etc.) starting in 70 they were pushing to standardize more parts to cut production costs so starting in 70 the Plymouth cars and the dodge cars all said "Chrysler solid state" so the 70 radio with that designation is correct for the dodge swinger 340 and the Plymouth duster 340.

If someone tries to sell you one that says "Solid state by Plymouth"...that came from a 68 or 9 cuda and it will bolt up but its not correct ( I don't know how correct you want to be but just be aware.)

Wow, thanks Rani! I have owned a bunch of second gen barracudas, so I knew the dashes were different. I had no idea that mine wasn't all jacked!(see photo). Everything is there! I guess I thought it was cut as its a bit jagged and the bezel was chopped all up. Plus, the previous owner did all sorts of bogus stuff to this car. Kenwood CD player and the excellent spray bomb stripe on my beautiful V88 stripe delete car.:D. Now to find one of those radios! Thanks everyone for the pics! You guys are the best!

if your going to be shopping around for a used bezel then you might check this thread I made awhile back....there are some little differences in the bezels

http://www.forabodiesonly.com/mopar/showthread.php?t=234435&highlight=rally+dash+thread

Thanks again, Rani. Already purchased a nice '70 non air bezel on moparts. It'll be on its way to Gcar trim for rechroming as soon as they will take it. I love it when you figure out you have LESS work to do than you thought! It's like finding money on the street!

A comment about OEM rally bezels... the brim portion would often become wavy. Then the line where it meets the dash cap doesn't look right. Rechrome shops typically correct only those flaws that are pointed out by the customer.
