I searched, and couldn't find anything. Can someone tell me how to remove the front bearing hubs form the brake drums. I have two 10 inch front hubs I would like to save, and don't want to scrap the hubs with the drums. It dosen't look like the studs can be pressed out easily, and i dont want to beat the hell out of them.
I was thinking of cutting the studs off evenly with the top of the drums, grinding them smooth, and then trying to press them out. The fac service manual dosen't mention front drum/hub separation any where.

Thanks barracudadave67

I believe they are swedged. You would need a cutter to get them off.

I've never had the swedge removal tool,, the way I take them out so they don't enlarge the hole to the point the new stud won't "seat" securely,, is,, I drill, cut, and/or grind the head off the stud,, and punch it out the front,, This'll prevent having to weld the new studs in,, which seldom works well...

Definately do not pound a "swedged" stud back thru the hub,, as it'll damage the hub..

But I think the swedge tool would be way superior,, if at all avail..

cheers

RustyRatrod once claimed you can cut these off with a hole saw. I don't know what size.....

You "for sure" do not want to drive the studs out with the swedge on.

Thanks for the replys Guys.
I ended up going to a local repair shop, and he just put the drum/hub assy on his air over hy draulic press, and in less than a minute, had the two pieces seperated, and didn't charge me a dime. I couldn't be happier.
I looked up buying one of those cutters, and they were anywhere from $70.00-$100.00. As you can guess, I didn't go that route.
Thanks again guys.

I 2nd that someone stated a standard hole saw that fit, but I recall that was for the 1973+ 1/2"D studs, not the 62-72 7/16"D studs. I would think most cars would have had the original drums replaced by now, in which case the swedges would be gone. If not, any number of methods would likely work. Dremel tool cut-off wheel, triangle file, cut stud flush and drill top of stud, ... To separate hub from drum, I have just thrown the drum down in a gravel parking lot until the hub falls thru. Today I have a shop press so can be more elegant.
